Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of Subsidiary Accounting operation in Canada for Finance Services Unit ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the teams business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.  The Accounting Analyst is responsible for ensure that the transactions booked in the GL systems reflect the economic reality, considering the timely and accurate processing of financial transactions for the banks subsidiaries and guarantee the reasonableness of accounting information under the scope of the Accounting Team in Bogot.

 

 

Accountabilities 

 

   Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

   Record and post transactions in the local systems for daily, monthly, and quarterly processes.

   Maintain all the supporting documentation updated.

   Do follow-up to open items in accounts receivable and accounts payables.  

   Prepare and analyze Balance sheet reconciliation.

   Do follow-up to open items in accounts receivable and accounts payables.

   Prepare, analyze and issue accounting and technical reports.

   Prepare payments through Bank systems. 

   Support reports preparation (Financial Statements, information/report requested by external and internal Auditors).

   Identify process improvement opportunities for team and escalate to Financial Supervisor.

   Keep Desktop Training Procedures (DTP) documents for relevant processes up to date. 

   Understand how the Banks risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

   Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabanks Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 

   Champions a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

 

 

Dimensions

   Participate in Finance and business related projects in areas of responsibility
   Ensure that the transactions booked in the GL systems reflect the economic reality
   Solid understanding of accounting principles and ability to understand financial statements, their components and disclosure requirements (IFRS, OSFI, OSC)
   Maintain knowledge of source Financial systems

 


Education / Experience / Other Information

   Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or similar professions (general knowledge of banking is a plus)
   Experience with computerized ledger systems
   Knowledge of Excel and basic english skills (Reading and writing). 
   Strong problem solving and analytical skills
   Ability to function well in a team-oriented environment

   Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
