Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join the Japan Finance team.
This role will support the day to day financial accounting and statutory reporting activities of the Japan entity, working closely with regional finance teams in APAC and the UK.
The successful candidate will be responsible for key areas of month end close, Japan GAAP and tax accounting, audit support, and management reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely financial information. The role requires solid technical accounting knowledge, strong attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a local and cross border environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Close
Handle the entire process of accounts payable, from the matching between purchase orders and supplier invoices to preparation of payment batch data.
Review and monitor accrual and amortisation entries posted by UK and APAC finance teams as part of the monthly close
Prepare and post journal entries, including payroll, revenue accruals, and Japan GAAP adjustments
Maintain the fixed asset register in accordance with Japan GAAP and Japanese tax requirements
Prepare billing invoices to clients.
Liaise with our Operations team to maintain fund expenses properly.
Reconcile intercompany receivables and payables.
Tax, Compliance & Audit
Prepare and process regular tax payments via the Japanese e Tax system
Reconcile prepaid consumption tax and ensure appropriate documentation
Prepare audit and tax filing support schedules and respond to requests from external auditors and tax advisors
Maintain statutory ledgers and accounting records in compliance with local regulatory requirements
Reporting & Analysis
Prepare financial and management reports, including FP&A related reports on sales results and assets under management (AUM)
Perform analytical reviews to identify and investigate unusual movements or variances in financial data
Experience & Qualifications
Bachelors degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum 5 years experience in corporate accounting, with sound knowledge of Japan GAAP and Japanese tax regulations
Experience within asset management, financial institutions, or a regulated financial services environment
Prior experience working in a gaishikei (foreign owned) company
Hands on experience with corporate accounting systems (e.g. Oracle, SAP, or equivalent)
External audit or tax filing experience is desirable
Technical & Language Skills
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and investigate movements in financial data
Advanced Excel skills (e.g. pivot tables, VLOOKUP / XLOOKUP; Copilot is a plus)
Native level Japanese and business level English (written and spoken), with the ability to communicate effectively with overseas stakeholders across APAC, the UK, and the US
