About the role
The Regional Head of Credit Risk Management (CRM) leads the Credit Risk Management team within the region. The role is expected to operate independently on a day-to-day basis and seek guidance when needed. The role is responsible for establishing and maintaining an integral view on credit risk in the region. Key objectives are to enhance credit risk control and maintain a high quality of credit decisions.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Lead, nurture and inspire a high‑performing and inclusive credit risk team.
- Act as a trusted strategic partner to the Regional CRO and the Global Head of CRM Wholesale & Rural, providing expert challenge, insight and guidance on credit risk across the region.
- Engage proactively with business and senior regional management to provide strategic steering on appetite for (new) business strategies, product development and portfolio evolution
- Oversee complex and material credit decisions through delegated authorities and joint frameworks, guiding second‑line portfolio monitoring and contributing to risk reviews and governance forums.
- Shape and influence risk appetite across all portfolios.
- Monitor emerging trends and forward‑looking credit risks, providing clear, timely insights and direction.
- Maintain and enhance the Credit Risk Management Framework (CPS220, APS220, APS221).
- Engage proactively and constructively with APRA, RBNZ and other regulators and represent the credit risk function as member of relevant governance forums
- Oversee compliance with all credit‑related regulatory obligations.
- Collaborate closely with Legal, Compliance, Operational Risk, Audit and global CRM stakeholders.
- Contribute to meaningful strategic and annual planning, ensuring credit‑related inputs are thoughtful and well‑informed.
- Oversee the function’s budget performance with care and accountability.
- Ensure accuracy of credit risk data, adherence to technology standards and continuity readiness.
What you’ll bring:
- A track record as a supportive, empowering senior leader, with extensive credit risk experience across SME to Wholesale lending, including customer‑facing and relationship‑management exposure.
- Deep working knowledge of Australian credit risk regulations, practices and prudential standards.
- Proven experience in leading, developing and uplifting an engaged, high‑performing team, with the ability to set strategy and influence outcomes across a matrix organisation.
- Strong, clear communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels, internally and externally
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Economics or Banking (MBA preferred).
- A data‑informed, thoughtful decision‑making style, supported by strong analytical capability.
