Job overview
We are looking for a proactive, highly organised and meticulous Credit Control & Finance Officer to join our PRC finance team in Beijing. In this vital role, you will oversee finance processes relating to client onboarding, ensuring strict compliance with PRC and firm-wide regulatory requirements. You will manage the credit control function, support working capital management and driving the timely collection of invoices from PRC clients across Pinsent Masons Group. Collaborating closely with our global credit management, finance, compliance, and legal teams, you will deliver an exceptional client experience from initial matter setup through to payment collection. The initial focus will be on PRC operations, with scope to expand to the wider APAC region. Success in this role will be measured by your ability to achieve a significant increase in cash collection from PRC clients within your first year.
About the role
You will be responsible for managing client onboarding processes, including the review of Letters of Engagement and verification of client data, ensuring all information is accurately recorded and compliant with legal and tax requirements. You will collaborate with fee earners and clients to agree on billing arrangements, and work with finance and legal teams to prepare necessary documentation for VAT exemption and inter-office payments.
You will also oversee credit control by assessing client creditworthiness, recommending credit limits, and monitoring payment terms. Your responsibilities will include developing strategies for collections, especially from SOEs, maintaining clear communication with client payors, and ensuring timely invoice payments. You will regularly report on cash flow, overdue accounts, and key performance indicators, while supporting continuous improvement of credit control processes and maintaining up-to-date regional credit policies.
The ideal candidate will excel at building strong client relationships from a finance perspective, efficiently resolving billing queries, and coordinating with client procurement departments to ensure smooth account setup. Additional tasks may be assigned by the Regional Head of Finance, APAC.
What we are looking for
We seek a skilled Credit Control & Finance Officer with a degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business, or equivalent experience. You should have at least 2-3 years background in finance within a legal or professional services setting, strong knowledge of Chinese enterprise payment processesespecially SOEsand expertise in legal billing and client account management. Advanced Excel skills, familiarity with accounting systems such as Aderant, and a solid grasp of PRC tax and invoicing are essential. Fluency in Mandarin and English is required. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, proactive, discreet, and client-focused, with excellent communication skills and the ability to resolve payment issues and work both independently and as part of a team.
