Full Job Description

The Commodities Department is seeking a highly motivated Associate/VP to join the Global Commodities Chief Operating Officer (COO) team. The Commodities COO team assists with business development, strategy support, financial resource management, enablement of business initiatives and coordination across support groups. The candidate will work with business heads across Global Commodities, the Sales and Trading desks as well as colleagues across Strats, IT, Risk, Finance, Operations, Legal, Compliance and other FID business lines. Candidate must be flexible with working hours, be able to work well under pressure while managing his/her workflow optimally.

You will:

  • Partner with department management to execute business priorities and manage the daily operation of the global commodities business.
  • Manage department financial resources (capital, liquidity and balance sheet) across various MS legal entities.
  • Coordinate process and procedures for initial margin, capital and liquidity optimization. Introduce tools to manage accordingly.
  • Focus on expense mitigation for improvement of department profit before tax (PBT) and ultimately return on equity (ROE)
  • Lead Commodities Vendor onboarding, including improvement of existing procedures and process
  • Manage broker, clearing and exchange expenses via methods such as negotiation of broker rates and Exchange Incentive Programs.
  • Continue to enhance sales reporting and further align reporting capabilities across broader FID (Fixed-income Division).
  • Resolve daily ad hoc issues as they arise (ex. trade discrepancies, p/l issues, new transaction execution, etc.). Will include becoming an expert in MS Commodities systems and products.
  • Create strategic presentations and materials for Commodities Management.
  • Coordinate business planning, headcount and budget setting across global Commodities and FID.
  • Collaborate with Firm partners across Equities, Investment Banking and Capital Markets.

You have:

  • Has quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills – is a quick learner, adaptable to changing business requirements.
  • Exercises judgment with a strong work ethic.
  • Able to execute quickly, multi-task and prioritize.
  • Able to prioritize accordingly, work well under pressure and meet evolving deadlines
  • Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication skills with the highest attention to detail – including strong note taking and information distillation skills.
  • Is a strong team-player and collaborator – enthusiastic and motivated with a professional attitude and demeanour.
  • Interested and knowledgeable in the finance industry. Commodities knowledge is a plus but not required.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Office, especially Powerpoint and Excel, essential.) VBA, Dashboards, Tableau & Salesforce.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in FID or relevant field.
