Full Job Description
Job Function Summary
The Tax Manager will join a dynamic US tax team to help lead tax compliance on cutting edge private credit fund structures and associated investments, as well as other potential entities and investments/strategies, with a particular emphasis on illiquids and alternatives.
Principal Responsibilities
Manage all relevant federal, state, and local partnership and corporate tax return filings, estimates, payments/accruals and tax audits, including reviewing and/or preparing complex tax allocations and securities adjustments, for private credit and other illiquid/alternative investment structures and products, as well as related carried interest/incentive plan partnership vehicles
Manage engagements with external Big 4 accounting firms and other external service providers
Help advise Portfolio Managers and other key stakeholders, alongside internal and external tax advisors, regarding US tax considerations associated with the relevant holding structure or investment portfolio
Assist with formulating a transfer pricing and/or cost allocation framework for holding structures
Collaborate with the US (and non-US, when relevant) tax team on broader hedge fund tax matters, including tax compliance and tax advisory support for the business
Contribute to a high-performing and efficient tax team
Work with cross-functional teams and related tax functions, including legal analysis, structuring, and tax technology to ensure comprehensive tax compliance and strategic alignment
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance tax compliance processes and implement best practices across the organization
Qualifications/Skills Required
A minimum of 7+ years of progressive fund taxation experience, with experience in a Big 4 accounting firm and preferably a leading credit fund or other alternative asset manager
Experience with typical holding structures for alternative/illiquid investments
Experience with complicated US partnership tax considerations in connection with carried interest/incentive plans using profits interests
Possess strong knowledge of US tax rules relevant to financial products and credit investments including but not limited to syndicated loans, high yield bonds, direct lending/origination, distressed debt, and collateralized loan obligations, significant modifications, OID and market discount, 163(j), 864(b) and effectively connected income
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
CPA license
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate both within a team and cross-functionally
Compensation: The estimated base salary range for this position is $160,000 to $250,000, which is specific to New York and may change in the future.
