As a Technology Support II team member in the Infrastructure Platforms team, you will operate and improve IBM i environments that support critical business services. You will partner closely with application, infrastructure, and operations stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing platform services. You will also help evolve day-to-day operations through automation, standardization, and continual service improvement.

 

Job responsibilities

  • Administer IBM i (also known as AS400) systems, including initial program load (IPL) operations, system configuration, and day-to-day platform health management.
  • Schedule and manage production workloads and batch processing, ensuring dependable job execution and clear operational runbooks for recurring activities.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance, capacity, and stability through proactive analysis, tuning, and incident prevention practices aligned to site reliability engineering principles.
  • Execute backup, recovery, and retention processes using IBM Backup, Recovery and Media Services (BRMS), and validate recovery readiness through regular restore testing.
  • Maintain platform security controls, including user access administration, auditing support, and secure configuration management in alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Implement and support replication and high availability capabilities, including ongoing validation, troubleshooting, and controlled failover readiness where applicable.
  • Troubleshoot complex incidents and change outcomes, coordinate with vendors and internal teams (including IBM support through Problem Management Records (PMR)), and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and technical guidance for repeatable operations.

    Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

    • 2+ years of experience or equivalent expertise troubleshooting, resolving, and maintaining information technology services
    • Demonstrates strong years of IBM i systems administration experience, including IPL operations, scheduling, performance management, backup and recovery, security administration, replication, and platform troubleshooting.

    • Hands-on experience with IBM Backup, Recovery and Media Services (BRMS) and recovery validation practices.
    • Working knowledge of IBM i administration tooling, including System i Navigator and Hardware Management Console (HMC).
    • Experience configuring and supporting IBM i connectivity tools, including IBM i Client Access configuration.
    • Demonstrated operational discipline using ticketing systems and change management processes, including working with IBM support via PMR and maintaining clear SOP documentation.
    • Foundational exposure to HP NonStop concepts, with a modern engineering mindset including Python and Ansible automation, software engineering fundamentals, toil elimination, and curiosity about AI-assisted approaches to operations.

     

    Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

    • Experience with broader reliability engineering practices, such as measurable service health objectives, error budgeting concepts, and sustained incident reduction.
