We are seeking an Associate with a broad set of skills to join the Trading Services Tax Product team, supporting J.P. Morgans global Trading Services business. You will be part of a small, specialist team with global reach, working closely with business partners to provide high-quality tax support across multiple regions. 

You will be involved in the application and interpretation of tax rules across a range of products and client scenarios. Responsibilities include supporting the development and updating of tax policies and controls, assisting with the implementation and maintenance of tax processes, and assessing the tax implications of new regulations and market developments for the business. The role also provides the opportunity to represent the team as a delegate at industry meetings and forums.

You will receive support and guidance, with the chance to contribute to a variety of global projects and gain valuable insight into how tax considerations influence business decisions and client outcomes. This role will provide you with the opportunity to put your tax technical and stakeholder delivery skills into practice in a diverse, stimulating, and high-performing environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality tax support to the Trading Services business, providing practical guidance on the application of tax rulesincluding withholding tax, transfer taxes,  SDRT, and other relevant taxesacross a range of products and client scenarios.
  • Assist with the regular review and upkeep of tax rates, and with broader reviews as part of ongoing policy implementation and oversight.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of tax policies, controls, and processes, ensuring the business remains compliant and well-positioned for regulatory and market change.
  • Horizon scan for new tax developments (including beneficial ownership challenges, changes in tax exemptions and reliefs, changes in transactional taxes, and other relevant issues), helping the team and business anticipate and respond to change.
  • Assess the tax implications of market changessuch as changes to FMIs (Financial Market Infrastructure) or the opening of additional markets for trading servicesin collaboration with the business.
  • Draft / review client communications and tax updates, ensuring they are clear, accurate and relevant.
  • Explain complex tax issues to non-specialists, including clients and relationship managers, building strong working relationships across the business.
  • Assist with the design and roll-out of new solutions and services, ensuring tax considerations are addressed by working closely with business partners and stakeholders.
  • Review and provide tax input into RFPs (Requests for Proposal) and DDQs (Due Diligence Questionnaires) for clients and prospects.
  • Use innovation and continuous improvement to enhance how the team supports the business and delivers value to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the team as a delegate at industry meetings and forums, helping to ensure the business remains engaged with market and regulatory developments.
  • Provide coverage for critical tasks during holidays and periods of absence.

 

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • ATT / CTA / ACA / CA and/or equivalent legal, HMRC, or international qualification.
  • Strong knowledge and experience researching and interpreting transaction tax or corporate tax law (not necessarily UK-specific), with an awareness of broader tax areas.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate and address the practical implications of tax rules and business changes.
  • Able to explain complex tax concepts clearly to non-specialists, with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong focus on risk, controls, and process improvement. 
  • Candidates with a post-qualification experience (PQE) are likely to be well-suited to this role.

     

 

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Strong presentation skills and previous client-facing experience.
  • Experience in financial services is desirable but not essential; suitably qualified candidates from other sectors will be considered, and business-related training will be provided as needed.
