As a member of the Global Nature and Social Risk team, you are at the forefront of assessing and managing nature and social risks. Your primary mandate will be to provide effective review and challenge to the front office in relation to the application of our Nature and Social Risk Standard. You will collaborate with various internal teams and clients, providing oversight and challenge on client and transaction due diligence, overseeing strategic research and training.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assessing, and providing effective review and challenge to the business on the nature and social risk profile and performance of clients, and the nature and social risks in transactions.
  • Develop and drive research on nature and social (N&S) issues affecting clients, e.g. human rights, biodiversity, supply chain issues.
  • Support / lead training efforts on N&S risk matters within the firm.
  • Engage with various functions across the firm on N&S risk matters, including Front Office, Legal, Audit, Compliance, Communications and others.
  • Monitor and respond to global N&S related regulations.
  • Participate in preparing external N&S risk-related disclosures.
  • Support internal initiatives on N&S risk documentation and emerging topics.
  • Represent the N&S Risk team at industry events and initiatives.
  • Contribute to continued enhancement of N&S risk management policies, standards and procedures.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in nature and social risk/sustainability roles including working within the Asia Pacific region
  • Strong experience of conducting due diligence on nature and social topics including human rights (e.g. forced labor risks, rights of Indigenous Peoples), biodiversity, pollution etc
  • Experience of conducting nature and social risk due diligence on clients at both corporate and asset level
  • Deep understanding of nature and social issues within the mining and clean energy sectors
  • Robust understanding of banking products (including lending, capital markets, M&A) and decision-making processes
  • Strong client and commercial focus and ability to identify and prioritize material risks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to convey information clearly, accurately and succinctly (both written and verbally)
  • Deep working knowledge of international N&S-related standards and frameworks, such as IFC Performance Standards
  • Ability to navigate the organization across regions and functions
  • Excellent analytical skills, proficient in Excel and large datasets and ability to draft high-quality presentations and documentation
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business or Finance or Environmental Studies or Sustainability or other related discipline

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Experience with assessing nature and social risks across a range of other sectors, such as oil and gas, power generation and agriculture.
  • Experience in assessing supply chain labor risks.
  • Fluency in Mandarin or Bahasa to support clients in China or Indonesia markets
  • A self-starter, with proven ability to work independently and as part of a global team.
  • Experience working with regulators on nature and social matters.
  • Familiarity with green products (e.g., Sustainability Linked Loans).
