Location: Hong Kong

Work at the intersection of markets, regulation, and complex negotiations. In this role, you will lead documentation outcomes that enable trading activity while managing legal and regulatory risk. You will partner closely with front office and control functions across Asia Pacific in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You will also help improve documentation processes through disciplined execution and technology-enabled ways of working.

As a Derivatives Master Documentation Negotiator, Vice President in the Derivatives Master Documentation, Futures and Options, Over-the-Counter Clearing and Derivatives Reform team, you will draft, review, and negotiate legal agreements that support derivatives and related transactions across Asia Pacific. You will provide legal and regulatory guidance on documentation terms and help manage risk by ensuring agreements align with applicable requirements and market standards. You will collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to progress negotiations, deliver timely execution, and improve documentation processes.

Job responsibilities

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and execute derivatives and financing master agreements and related ancillary documentation with institutional clients across Asia Pacific
  • Review client legal documentation (for example, constitutional documents and signing authorities) to confirm capacity and authority to enter into agreements
  • Advise on transaction-level documentation such as term sheets and trade confirmations
  • Monitor regulatory developments affecting derivatives documentation and analyze implications for documentation terms and internal guidance
  • Partner with front office and internal stakeholders to progress negotiations, resolve issues, and support timely execution
  • Coordinate with Credit, Tax, Collateral Management, and other partners to obtain inputs, comments, and approvals on key terms
  • Support end-to-end onboarding activities related to documentation, ensuring milestones and deliverables are completed
  • Participate in internal and external working groups to stay aligned on industry standards and documentation developments
  • Contribute to local and regional initiatives that improve documentation coverage, controls, and operating efficiency

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Qualified lawyer and/or holder of a law degree
  • Experience in investment banking, markets, or comparable financial services legal work
  • Experience negotiating derivatives and/or trading master agreements for Asia-Pacific clients
  • Good understanding of global and local regulatory developments impacting derivatives documentation
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with appropriate escalation judgment
  • High standards of integrity and strong collaboration skills
  • Proficiency with, and interest in, technology and systems that support documentation workflows

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience with futures and options documentation and/or over-the-counter clearing documentation
  • Experience supporting cross-border documentation negotiation across multiple Asia-Pacific jurisdictions
  • Experience contributing to documentation-related process improvement, change delivery, or technology initiatives
  • Participation in industry forums or working groups related to derivatives documentation standards
