About the position:

This is a frontoffice lending role within INGs Sector Based & Specialized Lending (SSL) platform. The Associate will support the origination and execution of lending transactions with a primary focus on Transportation & Logistics and will work closely with a Vice President on the team.

The Associate will be expected to build expertise in asset-based lending, with an emphasis on Transportation & Logistics asset classes, including shipping, containers, rail, and aviation. While Transport & Logistics will be the primary focus, the Associate will also be expected to develop a secondary focus in at least one additional sector within the platform: Renewables & Power, Hydrocarbons and New Energy, Metals & Mining, TMT & Healthcare, Food & Agribusiness, Fund Finance, Financial Sponsor Finance, Real Estate Finance, Asset-Based Lending, or Structured Export Finance.

The position offers handson experience across the full lifecycle of secured lending transactions, including origination support, credit analysis, structuring, and execution. The Associate will work closely with Relationship Managers, Directors, Managing Directors, and sector specialists and will gain exposure to industry dynamics, asset values, legal structures, and risk considerations specific to transport assets.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting origination and execution efforts for Transport & Logistics lending transactions, with a focus on asset-based lending across shipping, containers, rail, and aviation
  • Participating in initial deal screening, borrower/obligor analysis, and credit assessment under guidance of senior team members, incorporating asset quality, residual value, and market liquidity considerations
  • Assisting in due diligence processes, including analysis of borrower financials, business models, fleet/asset composition, utilization, counterparty profiles, and industry dynamics
  • Preparing and contributing to internal credit approval materials, including transaction narratives, collateral descriptions, advance rate and covenant proposals, stress cases, and risk mitigants
  • Building, reviewing, and updating financial models, including collateral and borrowing base analyses (where applicable), valuation, asset-level cash flow and depreciation assumptions, downside and recovery analyses, and internal risk rating tools
  • Reviewing financing documentation and supporting analysis of key commercial and collateral terms (e.g., security package, collateral eligibility, reporting requirements, covenants, and events of default) in loan and related agreements
  • Coordinating with internal stakeholders such as Risk, Legal, Loan Operations, Treasury, and Finance, and with external parties (e.g., counsel, technical advisors, and appraisers) as needed to support transaction execution and closings
  • Performing deal closing duties
  • Staying current on internal policies, procedures, and risk frameworks to ensure transactions are executed in line with ING standards

Qualifications and Competencies:

Associate level:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in lending, corporate finance, structured/asset-based finance, project finance, or investment banking; Transport & Logistics sector exposure is a strong plus

Core qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in (or experience with) asset-based and/or secured lending, including collateral analysis, documentation concepts, and recovery-focused credit thinking
  • Strong financial and credit analysis skills with a solid understanding of financial statements and cashflowbased and secured lending fundamentals
  • Financial modeling experience (Excel), including sensitivity analysis and scenario modeling may be assessed through a modeling exercise/case study
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fastpaced environment and meet deadlines
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across sectors and teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Salary Range: $130,000 - $175,000

The salary range listed reflects base salary only. This role is eligible for participation in a discretionary bonus program.
