Job Description: Senior Manager, Global Payments Solutions (GPS), Japan

Role purpose

Reporting to the Head of GPS Japan, this role acts as a senior client-facing advisor, partnering with key stakeholders across Relationship Management, Product, Client Management and Implementation. The role brings industry insight and practical ideas to support clients on their treasury transformation journey, leading structured client dialogues to clarify objectives, shape solution roadmaps, and convert opportunities into sustainable banking outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic treasury advisor: Engage clients in structured, consultative dialogue to define problem statements, strategic priorities and commercial ambitions; translate these into clear recommendations and an actionable roadmap.
  • Support treasury transformation across the maturity curve: Help clients evolve their treasury sophistication through scalable, modular solutions (e.g., payments, liquidity, digital channels), aligned to their operating model and growth trajectory.
  • Provide market insight and thought leadership: Deliver insights on treasury trends, digital payments and cross-border developments; create and share content internally/externally to position the bank as a trusted partner.
  • Drive client acquisition and growth: Co-originate opportunities by targeting priority cross-border corridors, partnering with global relationship bankers and in-country sales teams to build and execute cohesive client engagement plans.
  • Own end-to-end GPS solutioning and delivery: Partner closely with relationship bankers, product sales, client management, implementation and service teams to ensure seamless solution design, onboarding and execution of GPS capabilities.
  • Build compelling business cases: Identify opportunities, quantify value, and define practical steps to strengthen clients business cases for treasury changeaccelerating progression from intent to implementation.
  • Shape segment go-to-market and proposition: Contribute to USPs, corridor prioritisation, and proposition development tailored to scaling international clients; feed market/client insights into product and commercial strategy.
  • Represent the bank externally: Participate in client events, external forums and corridor initiatives to reinforce HSBCs leadership, deepen relationships and generate pipeline.

Experience and qualifications

  • Significant years of experience in transaction banking, cash management, or payments, with experience in close client engagement
  • Strong understanding of treasury operations and how they evolve as companies expand internationally, including common pain points, enablers, and scalability needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and engage stakeholders across global, regional, and local teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of delivering strategic insights in a clear, client-relevant manner.
  • Experience working with established multinationals or scaling companies is highly desirable
  • Fluent English and Japanese (level commensurate with client and stakeholder engagement requirements).
