We are seeking a dynamic, self-starting candidate to join HSBCs U.S. Public Affairs team as a Government Relations Senior Associate. The U.S. Public Affairs team is the primary liaison between HSBC and policymakers in the U.S. government. The team engages with government officials to understand the impact of, and advocate for, public policies that affect the bank in the U.S. and globally.

As a Public Affairs Senior Associate, you will:

  • Manage the HSBC Political Action Committee (PAC), including developing and executing its growth strategy in coordination with the Public Affairs team; managing PAC Board activities; and ensuring compliance with federal rules and regulations governing political action committees
  • Conduct research, draft written materials and support the teams government engagement activities
  • Coordinate activities, events, resources and meetings, and manage internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide administrative support, including preparing presentations, drafting reports and supporting key documents such as briefings for government engagements and issue briefs
  • Manage external relationships and service providers
  • Attend trade association and other external meetings, and brief internal stakeholders
  • Brief senior executives and present to internal audiences
  • Coordinate executive visits in partnership with the Public Affairs team
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments
  • Support the Public Affairs teams strategic direction
  • Ensure compliance with applicable lobbying disclosure rules and regulations

Qualifications

Youll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:

  • Relevant experience in government relations, public affairs, or a related field
  • Demonstrated interest in financial regulatory, economic and geopolitical issues
  • Prior experience managing or supporting a federal political action committee
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, suitable for executive-level audiences
  • Prior government or Capitol Hill experience is desirable but not required
  • Ability to produce concise, accurate and technical written materials, sometimes on very short deadlines
  • Proficiency in desktop publishing, word processing and newsletter programs such as Adobe InDesign, Canva, Microsoft Publisher
  • Sound judgement, discretion and confidentiality, with the tact and diplomatic skills to represent the function effectively and step in for a manager when needed

The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.
