Mount Isa Mines are currently seeking a Senior Long Term Planning Engineer to join the Strategic Mine Planning team supporting the George Fisher Mine. This role is primarily Brisbane-based - working a Monday to Friday roster, with one week per month on site. Alternatively, the role can be offered as a residential Mount Isa position on a 5/2, 4/3 9-hour roster.

About the role
Reporting to the Principal Mining Engineer, the Senior Long Term Planning Engineer is responsible for developing and optimising life-of-asset (LOA) and long-term mine plans. This role focuses on value optimisation, strategic trade-offs, and capital justification, ensuring plans are robust, achievable, and aligned with business objectives. You will play a key role in defining the future direction of the operation, balancing technical, operational, and economic considerations.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain Life-of-Asset (LOA) and long-term mine plans
- Lead strategic trade-off studies (e.g. sequencing, cut-off grade, mining method, infrastructure)
- Identify and quantify risks and opportunities within long-term plans
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes with robust planning inputs
- Interface with Technical Services (Geology, Geotech, Ventilation, Scheduling) to ensure integrated plans
- Provide capital justification and support for major projects and infrastructure
- Ensure long-term plans are practical and aligned with operational constraints
- Support continuous improvement in planning processes, tools, and assumption
- Engage with site stakeholders during site visits / rostered periods to validate plans and assumptions
- Degree qualification in Mining Engineering or related discipline
- Significant experience in underground hard rock mining, with a strong focus on long-term planning
- Demonstrated experience in LOA planning, trade-off studies, and value optimisation
- Strong understanding of mining methods, sequencing, and operational constraints
- Experience with planning and design software (Deswik preferred)
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilites
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across technical and operational teams
- Ability to translate complex analysis into clear strategic direction
