United Wambo Joint Venture (UWJV) is an open-cut coal mine located 16 kilometres west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. UWJV is a 50:50 joint venture between United Collieries (Glencore and MEU) and Wambo Coal (Peabody).

The Opportunity

United Wambo Joint Venture (UWJV) commenced operation in 2020 and we are forecast to produce up to 10 million tonnes per annum of saleable thermal and semi-soft metallurgical coal until 2042. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Environment & Community Coordinator to support our United Wambo Operation.

What are we looking for?

Reporting to the Environment & Community Manager, this role is integral to maintaining regulatory compliance across environmental approvals, legislative obligations, and site-specific requirements, while driving the implementation of sustainable environmental and social management practices.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the coordination and execution of environmental monitoring programs, management of community engagement, and provision of expert guidance on regulatory and operational matters. A key focus of this position includes delivering targeted environmental training, mentoring team members, and fostering effective engagement with both internal departments and external stakeholders, including regulators and community representatives.

This role requires an adaptive and a results-driven professional with the capability to critically evaluate existing systems, lead continuous improvement initiatives, manage competing priorities and apply industry best practices through a practical, hands-on methodology aligned with business objectives and stakeholder expectations.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in environmental science or engineering;

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role within the resources sector;

  • Working knowledge of mining approvals legislation and processes;

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills;

  • Superb analysing, auditing and report writing skills;

  • Strong project and contractor management skills, and experience in community relations;

  • Strong systems focus and strategic approach to delivering positive outcomes;

  • Experience in delivering training and awareness programs to employees on environmental and community matters;

  • Excellent time management, presentation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills; and

  • Proficiency to ArcGIS highly desirable.
