The success of our Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses is the result of the talent, curiosity and drive of our people. They bring solutions every day to optimize our strategy in energy, chemicals, lubricants and lower-emissions technologies.

We invite you to bring your ideas to ExxonMobil to help create sustainable solutions that improve quality of life and meet societys evolving needs. Learn more about our What and our Why and how we can work together.

What role you will play on our team

We are seeking an experienced Senior Analyst Canadian Crude to support our Crude Oil Trading organization, with a primary focus on Canadian crude supply, flows, pricing differentials, infrastructure, and market dynamics across Western and Eastern Canada and key downstream markets.

Successful candidates will serve as a critical trading partner, enabling opportunity identification and value capture through deep understanding of regional supply and demand balances, crude quality economics, price differentials and arbitrage, transportation economics, infrastructure constraints, and market dislocations across short- and long-term horizons. This role involves close collaboration with crude trading analysts across regions and commodities to connect Canadian crude markets with global fundamentals.

This role is located in Houston, Texas at our Spring Campus.

What you will do

  • Develop and present ongoing and differentiated trade ideas by connecting Canadian crude fundamentals with proprietary insights, employing advanced analytics alongside supply, demand, and flow models
  • Produce short and long-term market outlooks on Canadian crude fundamentals and price differentials to inform trading decisions
  • Perform economic analysis of crude movements, quality adjustments, blending economics, transportation options (pipeline, rail, marine), and alternative markets
  • Support physical and derivatives crude trading through analysis of existing and emerging instruments linked to Canadian crude benchmarks (e.g., WCS, WTI differentials, regional basis markets)
  • Track and analyze crude production trends, refinery demand, inventory levels, exports, and cross-border trade flows
  • Monitor pipeline, rail, storage, and terminal infrastructure, identifying constraints and opportunities impacting market pricing
  • Act as a key collaborator with traders, schedulers, operations, risk, and commercial teams to support trade execution and value generation
  • Serve as a power user of strategic trading and analytical tools, including market data systems, bespoke models, and internal analytics platforms
  • Contribute to special projects, market entry assessments, strategic studies, and portfolio optimization initiatives
  • Provide analytical support to Trading Management on ad hoc commercial and strategic issues

What you bring

  • Bachelors degree (BS, BBA) in engineering, economics, mathematics, finance, business, or a related quantitative discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in market analysis, preferably within crude oil trading organizations, banks, funds, or energy-focused institutions
  • Strong experience with physical and paper crude oil markets, with preferred exposure to Canadian crude benchmarks (e.g., WCS, MSW, Edmonton Par, Cold Lake)
  • Solid understanding of crude quality differentials, blending economics, transportation economics, and refinery optimization drivers
  • Knowledge of derivatives, risk evaluation, and hedging techniques applicable to crude oil markets
  • Demonstrated strength in numerical analysis, modeling, and the application of advanced analytics to market problems
  • Proven ability to forecast market changes, assess commercial impacts, and translate analysis into actionable trade recommendations
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multinational, cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated leadership capability paired with clear, concise communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience delivering effective two-way communication with internal and external stakeholders (written, verbal, presentations)
  • High level of motivation, ownership mindset, and focus on continuous improvement
  • Strong technical proficiency, including programming and analytics skills in Python, R, SQL, and Tableau
  • Strong interest in long-term career development within trading analytics and crude oil market analysis
