Position Overview

Details of the Division and Team:

Deutsche Bank Japan follows a group-integrated risk management approach within the independent Chief Risk Office

function, which includes Credit Risk Management (CRM). The CRM team in Tokyo manages a portfolio of counterparties across corporate, financial institutions, real estate and leveraged lending risks. The team also maintains a local Risk Management Framework, reviews local policies and procedures and supports governance by participating in various management councils and oversight meetings. In addition, the team takes care of regulatory reporting duties and participates in internal and external audits.

Your key responsibilities:

  • The Assistant Vice President / CRM will manage a dedicated portfolio of Corporate and FI counterparties, as well as either real estate or leverage lending. In this role, you will review credit proposals, write credit reports, recommend and, within your personal credit authority, decide on transactions and risk exposures.

  • Products covered include the full spectrum of commercial- and investment banking, such as committed loans, trade finance and capital markets products including FX, commodity, interest rate and equity derivatives. You will manage the risk arising from these products with appropriate documentation terms, structural enhancements such as collateral or guarantees, or propose de-risking measures in order to stay within risk appetite parameters.

  • You will ensure that portfolio quality and documentation standards are maintained. You achieve this by participating in due diligence calls and visits, offering advice to your business stakeholders in structuring solutions and adhering to counterparty-, industry- and product risk strategies.

  • Beyond counterparty credit risk, the local CRM team is frequently involved in internal and external audits, for which a thorough know how of internal policies and procedures as well as systems and data management is essential. You participate in audit meetings, support the remediation of audit issues and provide input for general improvements in efficiency of work procedures, with a strong awareness of regulatory standards.

  • The role entails frequent communication with business- and infrastructure stakeholders, guiding the first with their transaction proposals to achieve their targets, and engaging with the latter to enhance holistic risk management across functions.

  • You have an open and cooperative communication style and present factual information in a structured, clear, concise and confident way. You reach out pro-actively and connect easily for the purpose of learning and understanding. This enables you to find the best solutions in complex and structured transactions for the identified key risks and recommend these to senior management in the context of the bank’s risk appetite.

  • While being a team player sharing your know how and supporting the development of junior team members and new joiners, you manage transactions independently towards timelines provided by your business partners.

Your skills and experience:

  • You have a minimum of 3 years of credit risk experience and a broad product knowhow in both lending and in derivatives, preferably within an an investment banking environment.

  • You have gained experience in structuring complex transactions and you understand complex risk, potentially gained by involvement in leveraged and structured transactions or real estate financings.

  • You command of a good knowledge in documentation and you can use principal risk mitigating documentation techniques.

  • Leading transactions to decision stage, you make use of your excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to people at all levels.

  • Given the need to analyze local language financial disclosure and credit documentation, you are a Japanese native or have Japanese native level language qualifications. Strong written and verbal English skills enable you to communicate flexibly in an international investment banking environment.

  • You have at least an Undergraduate Degree and formal credit training, potentially CFA.
