The D. E. Shaw group seeks a manager to join its team focused on evaluating and optimizing its operating model with the firms largest middle/back-office vendor. This team is also responsible for relationship management with internal stakeholders and the vendor, financial analysis and negotiation, and program ownership for large technical projects in the accounting, allocation, and general ledger domains. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and shape the firms operating model.
What youll do day-to-day
- Execute and coordinate operating model design projects, overseeing distinct work streams focused on workflow design and stakeholder engagement.
- Partnering with function heads to establish goals, KPIs, and ongoing vendor engagement strategies while engaging with stakeholder groups, independently owning complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and collaborating closely with senior leaders to deliver principled middle and back-office solutions.
- Diagnose, consult, and manage multiple transformation projects, ensuring accountability for the full lifecycle of trading operations.
- Build and develop program management capabilities within the team, mentoring junior staff and fostering analytical skill development.
Who were looking for
- Candidates should have a bachelors degree or higher in any academic field and a record of professional achievement with at least 5 years of experience leading and executing complex, multi-year projects involving multiple stakeholder groups and senior leaders.
- Proven experience partnering with senior leaders (e.g., heads of trading desks, department heads) to diagnose operational challenges, consulting on solutions, and overseeing the lifecycle of transformation initiatives
- Experience in operating model design, workflow optimization, or technology program management within middle or back-office environments, or at solution providers supporting these functions.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to mentor and develop junior staff and build team capacity.
- Understanding and exposure to the lifecycle of a trade with prior experience working with transactions (preferably middle office, trade settlement and reconciliation).
- The expected annual base salary for this position is $225,000 to $275,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
