Would you like to play a key role in maintaining effective 1st Line of Defence (LoD) controls management within Danske Bank? Are you motivated by working in a regulatory context where analytical thinking, data-driven insights and strong stakeholder interaction are essential?
We are looking for a Chief Business Risk & Controls Officer to join the Controls Office within Business Controls and Product Management (BCPM). The role sits at the intersection of regulatory expertise and control execution, with a strong focus on MiFID II Transaction Reporting (RTS 22) and related reporting obligations. A substantial part of the role is hands-on control operation and reporting, combined with end-to-end ownership of selected areas to drive continuous improvements in controls, ways of working and stakeholder collaboration as regulation evolves.
About us - a central part of supporting the business
The Business Controls and Product Management (BCPM) department plays a central role in supporting the business units in delivering their strategic objectives, with reporting lines to the heads of Large Corporates & Institutions, Business Customers, and Personal Customers.
The Controls Office is home to the 1st LoD control operation and control testing activities within BCPM. As part of the Regulatory Risk Testing & Assurance team, you will work closely with colleagues across BCPM as well as a broad set of stakeholders in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defence. We focus on improving the control environment by ensuring consistency, transparency, and high quality in how regulatory risks are managed through controls, with an emphasis on regulations such as MiFID II, Dodd-Frank, EMIR, and SFTR.
The position is located in Warsaw, Poland and does not include a relocation allowance.
You will:
Run, monitor and report on SQL-based controls, ensuring accurate, timely and audit-ready outputs, and continuously improve control performance in collaboration with relevant BCPM teams
Interpret and apply complex regulatory requirements and ensure that control design and outputs are aligned with applicable regulations, in particular MiFID II (RTS 22 Transaction Reporting)
Analyse control outcomes to identify issues, root causes and improvement opportunities, and investigate complex cases using a structured problem-solving approach
Take end-to-end ownership of selected areas and deliverables, shaping plans and priorities, driving execution and closure, and improving ways of working across stakeholders including how we adapt controls to regulatory change
Engage and partner with stakeholders to clarify requirements, strengthen risk ownership, and drive practical implementation of control improvements
Drive escalation of material issues, trends and control outcomes to senior management and relevant governance forums
About you:
You bring experience and curiosity, and you are comfortable operating in a complex regulatory environment with many stakeholders. More specifically, you:
Bring extensive experience in non-financial risk management, with solid understanding of financial products and end-to-end business processes
Have deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks and are comfortable interpreting and applying complex legislation in a controls and risk management context; MiFID II Transaction Reporting would be considered an advantage
Are strong in planning and execution, setting clear priorities and milestones and following through to meet deadlines
Have strong technical capabilities, including the ability to read, write and optimise SQL queries used for control purposes
Are experienced in analysing large datasets, validating outputs and performing root-cause analysis to resolve issues, approaching complex problems in a structured and pragmatic way where guidance is limited
Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, and are able to explain complex findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Are open and collaborative, able to build strong relationships and work effectively with stakeholders across the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defence, Legal and other key functions
Are fluent in spoken and written English; knowledge of a Nordic language or Polish is considered an advantage
Uniqueness is powerful - we welcome everyone in Danske Bank.
We offer:
In Danske Bank, you will join a professional and supportive environment where development and well-being are key priorities. As an employee, you will be offered:
Growth opportunities: a professional and supportive team, access to elearnings and development programmes (including professional certificates), and internal mobility opportunities across Danske Bank
Health & well-being: a diverse and inclusive work environment with focus on work-life balance, additional health insurance, and mental well-being initiatives
