Join us as a Relationship Director in our Large Corporate Hospitality & Leisure Coverage team on a 12-month secondment or FTC , where youll lead on managing a portfolio of high-value Hotel & Accommodation clients while driving strategic new business development. Operating at a senior level, youll work alongside Corporate Directors and senior stakeholders to originate and negotiate complex opportunities, deliver sophisticated financial solutions, and deepen key client relationships. Youll take full ownership of your portfolio retaining, growing, and maximising revenue opportunities to support both client success and business performance.

To be successful as a Relationship Director you will need:

  • A track record of managing high-value, complex large corporate client relationships, including engagement at C-suite level and managing a multi-million net income portfolio.
  • Advanced payments technology expertise, with a sharp eye for detail
  • Experience leading and negotiating strategic, high-impact deals that drive significant revenue growth.
  • Deep knowledge of Hospitality & Leisure industry trends, regulatory environment, and the ability to structure bespoke financial solutions for complex clients.

Some other highly valued skills, may include:

  • A strategic, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to navigate complex client challenges.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders.

Barclays payments acceptance business provides critical infrastructure to the UK economy, processing billions of pounds of payments annually for both small businesses and domestic and international corporate clients.

In April 2025, we announced a long-term partnership with Brookfield Asset Management to grow and transform the payments acceptance business by broadening the range of services offered, enhancing the experience for both existing and prospective clients. Leveraging extensive client relationships and deep experience of UK payments, we will create an environment of continuous innovation - activated by Brookfields global private equity expertise in payments, technology, operational transformation and corporate carve-outs - to ensure the business is strategically positioned for long-term growth.

Barclays will invest approximately 400m in the new business, the majority of which will be incurred during the first three years. Performance-linked incentives will drive greater alignment between the partners, underpinning the long-term commitment to the transformation. Barclays and Brookfield will work to create a standalone entity over time, continuing to use the Barclaycard Payments (BPL) brand and acting as the sole payments acceptance services provider to Barclays clients for a minimum of ten years.

Purpose of the role

To establish and nurture profitable relationships with both corporate and individual clients. It's the bridge between the bank's offerings and clients' needs, ensuring mutual benefit and long-term success. 

Accountabilities

  • Management of client relationships to identify the client's financial goals, challenges, and risk tolerance to support the analysis of data obtained from various sources, including the investment portfolio and cash flow, to identify trends, insights, areas for improvement and additional services to support client needs.
  • Research and understanding of the client's industry trends, regulatory landscape, and competitive environment to inform strategic recommendations.
  • Design of customised solutions that address the client's specific needs and objectives, incorporating a range of products and services from the bank's portfolio.
  • Communication of the value proposition of proposed solutions, justification of recommendations, and negotiation of terms that are beneficial for both the client and the bank.
  • Provision of guidance to clients to support their financial decisions, offering expert investment advice, risk management and wealth management strategies support, and updates on market trends to ensure a positive and continuous relationship.
  • Assessment of financial, legal, and operational risks associated with client relationships, and implementation of measures to minimise potential losses.
  • Documentation of all client interactions, transactions, and agreements to ensure transparency and auditability, and communicate findings effectively to support product development, service offerings, and the overall bank strategy.
  • Monitoring of client satisfaction, revenue generated, and other relevant metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of relationship management efforts.
