About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Credit Risk and Approval Specialist.  The role is responsible for transactional credit risk management, oversight and portfolio governance. The role covers Corporate and Investment Banking, Commercial Banking, and Commercial Real Estate lending activities within our Americas region risk team.


In this role, you will:

  • Exercise sound credit judgment and independent risk oversight by providing credit concurrence within delegated authority limits for lending transactions across Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial Banking, and Commercial Real Estate

  • Serve as a trusted risk partner to frontline and control functions, collaborating across the three lines of defense to structure, review, and execute transactions that support client objectives while maintaining strong risk discipline

  • Provide oversight and governance of credit portfolios for Branch and nonBranch legal entities, including portfolio analysis, internal and regulatory reporting, control management, and data and records governance

  • Lead and support internal and external credit audits, ensuring timely issue management, adherence to regulatory expectations, and continuous improvement of risk practices

  • Drive reporting enhancements and operational efficiencies by partnering with global risk, data, and technology teams and leveraging enterprise reporting platforms and centers of excellence

  • Contribute enterprisewide risk leadership by providing subject matter expertise and supporting Canada Region and broader Americas Risk initiatives, strategic programs, and crossfunctional projects


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Credit Risk & Approval or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 4+ years of experience in Corporate and/or Commercial Credit and/or Special Loans


Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or related field or MBA

  • Strong working knowledge of corporate and commercial lending frameworks across Canada and/or the U.S., including credit underwriting, risk assessment, and transaction approval processes

  • Experience providing or supporting transactional credit decisioning within a regulated financial institution; formal credit training is an asset

  • Understanding of the three lines of defense within a credit or risk management environment

  • Excellent written, verbal, and stakeholdermanagement skills, with the ability to articulate risk perspectives to senior audiences

  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a global, matrixed, and performancedriven organization

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), with familiarity with AIenabled productivity tools or BI platforms (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Power BI) an asset

  • Demonstrated high attention to detail, strong execution, and ability to meet deadlines in a fastpaced environment

  • Experience at a global or U.S. moneycenter financial institution, and/or exposure to regulatory, supervisory, or regulatory reporting environments

  • Holder of risk management certifications (e.g. FRM, PRM) and or/professional designations such as CFA, CA or CPA.
