Skadden has one of the preeminent M&A practices in the world and is consistently ranked at the top of the league tables and directories for our work on strategic and cutting-edge deals in key global markets.

Our London US Corporate team has built a track record acting for client on their most complex transactions, regularly acting opposite other leading US law and the Magic Circle. Virtually all of the transactions that our lawyers advise on are cross-border in nature and provide an excellent opportunity to work on deals across industries and jurisdictions, matters which are often first-of-their-kind. Our clients include a broad array of leading corporates, sponsors, government entities, and other institutions and individuals. This is an exciting time to join a leading M&A practice in London.

The Role

The new hire will join the London US Corporate group, predominantly handling M&A but should be versatile and be expected to undertake a broad range of corporate transactions within our practice public and private M&A, joint ventures as well as advising on corporate governance matters.

Person Specification

We are looking for a US qualified associate with a minimum of five years post-qualification experience in a well-regarded US Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions practice.

The role requires a candidate with excellent experience in managing client relationships and the ability to assist clients on day to day issues.  Excellent written communication and drafting skills are also required as well as the ability to demonstrate initiative.  They must also possess the skills to take on a high degree of responsibility within a fast paced but friendly environment.  A high level of academic achievement required.

Remuneration

We pay generous rates and provide our lawyers with a highly competitive benefits package. As of 2025, the package includes:

  • Discretionary year-end bonus
  • Technology allowance
  • 22 days holiday and 3 personal days
  • Enhanced Family leave
  • Private medical insurance
  • Permanent health insurance
  • Life assurance
  • Interest free season ticket loan
  • Gym allowance

Mentoring and Hybrid Working

Associates who join Skadden laterally participate in our mentor program, Skadden Integration+, which specifically focuses on the unique needs experienced attorneys face during professional transitions.

These efforts, along with our professional development and other Skadden benefits, including a hybrid work model (which remains subject to review), consists of working Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the office (for full-time attorneys), and living proximate to the office, underscores Skadden's long-standing commitment to investing in its people and culture.

Training and Development

Skadden has a sophisticated training program that includes both in-house and external seminars and training sessions.  We also pride ourselves on providing our lawyers with "on-the-job" training and constructive "real-time" partner feedback.  The formal training program includes:

  • Regular team meetings
  • Regular know-how meetings.
  • Weekly and monthly training seminars and workshops for all levels covering legal topics relevant to the firms practice areas and skills.  These are presented by partners and associates and external specialists, KCs and other professionals.
  • Live video-links to seminars presented across Skaddens network of offices.

Pro bono

Pro bono is a core aspect of Skadden culture, and the firm dedicates approximately 3-5% of its total billable hours to pro bono matters. Our lawyers have an opportunity to get involved in a range of pro bono matters under the supervision of charities, on topics including family, welfare benefits, housing, and immigration, as well as corporate pro bono opportunities.
