What is the opportunity?

RBCs Mid-Market M&A team advises private companies on divestitures, acquisitions, buyouts, and carveouts. We are Canadas largest dedicated Mid-Market M&A team within RBCs Corporate Client Group in Commercial Banking. As Director, Origination, you will play a pivotal role in driving business development across the Prairies (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba). This is a relationship-driven role focused on collaborating with internal partners, originating transaction opportunities, building pipelines, and elevating RBCs market presence.

What will you do?

  • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of M&A opportunities through strategic internal partnerships (e.g., Commercial Banking, Wealth Management and Private Banking)

  • Support Regional Leaders in converting leads into engagements by preparing marketing materials, pitches, and client presentations

  • Strengthen RBCs external profile by fostering relationships with business owners, advisors, and industry stakeholders

  • Deliver compelling presentations to internal and external audiences to showcase the teams expertise and value proposition

What do you need to succeed?

Must have

  • 4 to 6 years of experience in financial services (M&A, corporate finance, commercial banking, or investment banking), or adjacent sales role with strong financial analysis, valuation, and transaction structuring experience

  • Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and financial research tools (e.g., Capital IQ, PitchBook)

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, identify opportunities and drive deal origination

  • Exceptional written and verbal skills for crafting pitches and presenting to stakeholders

  • Self-motivated, organized, and collaborative with a willingness to work independently and meet tight deadlines

  • Willingness and ability to travel across the Prairies to meet with clients and partners

Nice to have

  • Direct M&A/transaction experience is strongly preferred

  • Advanced degree and/or professional credentials (e.g., MBA, CPA, CFA, CBV) or equivalent experience
