Full Job Description

Location: Beijing, China

The successful candidate will support the implementation of the firm's strategic focus areas for China and the Asia Pacific region as identified in the firms APAC Strategy and Growth Plan. The role will support lawyers in all aspects of their business development activities, covering a wide portfolio of responsibilities including new business proposals, client targeting and account management, credentials materials and tactical marketing execution of sponsorships, thought leadership campaigns and new product development.

The role sits within the Asia Pacific Business Development, Communications & Marketing team which comprises more than 17 BD and communications professionals located in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Singapore and Sydney, including BD assistant and BD translator based in Beijing. 

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the delivery of BD initiatives across the China offices to support the firms strategy, grow profitable revenue, and monitor the implementation of key initiatives.

  • Assist with the administrative tasks, such as maintaining up-to-date credentials for the China offices, maintaining tracker, updating and translating Chinese language contacts in database.
  • Drive the generation of profitable revenue through: 

    • assisting with bids and proposals that originate from the China offices, and guiding those completed by others in the firm such as lawyers and legal Professional Assistants (PAs)

    • supporting China BD team in all sorts of BD activities, including events, client meetings and trainings

  • Work with China BD team to support the Brand & Comms Plan for China, including planning and executing of in-person and virtual events and sponsorships for China

  • Work in collaboration with Head of China BD and the APAC Communications Manager to ensure effective use of all appropriate communication channels, including our internal news source (Out-Law), media, membership bodies, social media (WeChat and LinkedIn) to profile and promote practice/sector marketing initiatives. 

  • Assist with market research and monitor the firms core sector environments to identify trends and developments, connecting these to our capability. Support the BDM in the identification of opportunities to acquire new clients/grow existing clients via targeted pursuits, leveraging firm campaign strategy where applicable.

Ensure BD materials are compliant with local legal requirements and are branded according to the brand guidelines, including liaising with the firm's dedicated in-house design team (The Design Bar)

 

Team support:

  • Attend China/regional APAC BD team meetings 

  • Liaise with external service providers, such as catering services providers

  • Liaise with Chinese language online bidding portals and their customer services 

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree educated.

  • Relevant marketing, business or communications qualification.

 

Relevant experience:

  • Ideally 1-2 years experience preferably in a professional services environment (legal, accounting/finance, engineering).

  • Strong written skills.

  • Knowledge of the Asia Pacific marketplace, particularly China.

  • Knowledge of the five sectors in which the firm markets itself is desirable.

  • Brand, events and communications experience is desirable.

  • Positive attitude with a healthy degree of self-awareness and humility

  • Excellent project and time management skills with ability to juggle competing priorities

  • Highly organised, attention to detail a must

  • Not afraid to challenge status quo if there is a better-known solution or outcome for the firm
