We're seeking someone to join our Risk and Information Management team as a Senior Backend Engineer in Non-Financial Risk Technology to work on complex, enterprise-scale platforms, designing and building highly scalable APIs and end-to-end solutions in data-intensive and modern engineering environments. This role requires strong backend expertise and experience with AI-enabled, data driven systems.

In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities. This is a Senior Backend Engineer position at Director level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

What you'll do in the role:

  • Design, develop and maintain complex enterprise-grade applications with a strong focus on data quality, scalability, reliability and security

  • Work alongside data scientists to implement machine learning models such as anomaly detection and recommender engines

  • Be a thought leader and developer of Generative & Agentic AI solutions that automate data management workflows for the business

  • Contribute to the development of pipelines that ETL data from relational to graph databases.

  • Build high-performance, well-structured RESTful APIs using Python

  • Participate across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, technical design, development, testing and production support

  • Collaborate with product owners, architects and globally distributed engineering teams

  • Design and interact with databases, ensuring data integrity, performance and scalability

  • Contribute to frontend development using modern JavaScript frameworks, including React

  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality and delivery efficiency

  • Participate in design reviews, architectural discussions and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Drive technical excellence through code reviews, architectural and design discussions, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing

  • Implement and advocate for best practices in software engineering and design patterns

  • Mentor junior and mid-level developers, providing technical guidance and direction on technical tasks

What youll bring to the role:

  • 7+ years of professional experience building enterprise-scale software solutions

  • Strong hands-on experience with Python for backend development

  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing scalable, secure and robust APIs

  • Solid experience with at least one database technology (relational or NoSQL), such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB or equivalent

  • Practical exposure to AI-assisted development tools to enhance developer productivity and software quality

  • Experience or exposure to building or integrating AI/ML-based applications.

  • Familiarity with Data Engineering concepts, such as data pipelines, batch or stream processing and large-scale data handling

  • Familiarity or experience with semantic or graph database technologies (e.g., RDF, graph databases, ontologies) is highly desirable

  • Exposure to frontend development, including React or similar modern JavaScript frameworks is desirable

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices

  • Expertise in software version control and collaborative development using Git and GitHub

  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, design patterns, performance tuning, and API security

  • Experience working in Agile / Scrum delivery models

  • Experience working in regulated or large enterprise environments

  • Experience collaborating with distributed international teams
