Morgan Stanley is seeking a risk professional to join the Credit Risk Management department in Frankfurt at Associate level. The role holder will have responsibility for the credit risk management of the Firm's business with clients and with additional involvement in credit risk management related governance and regulatory deliverables.


Firm Risk Management
Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, operational, model and other risks.

Background on the Position
The role will reside within Firm Risk Management's Credit Risk Management Department. Credit Risk Management (CRM) evaluates credit risk transactions and approves rejects or modifies them considering the availability and appropriateness of arrangements for reducing risk or risk mitigation. The department also assigns Internal Credit Ratings, establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board, and monitors and reports on credit risk exposures on a regular basis to the Chief Risk Officer and senior management. CRM also interacts with business units to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions.

What will you be doing?

  • Analyze and identify credit risks in transactions (loans & derivatives) and understand the impact these have on our portfolio and risk appetite, follow up on transaction execution to ensure loans/trades are booked correctly
  • Analyze counterparty creditworthiness, assist in managing exposures/limits, identify and quantify risk drivers, prepare credit memos and make recommendations
  • Understand how macro-economic, market and company-specific events and new financial regulation impact the Firm's portfolio, clients and counterparty credit quality
  • Participate in client due diligence meetings to understand their strategy, financial performance and business requirements
  • Liaise as necessary with other Risk and non-Risk groups including Market Risk, XVA, BU Risk, Credit Methodology, Credit Capital, Operations, Legal, and Finance
  • Contribute to internal management reporting and regulatory exercises including the production of materials for regulatory submissions and meetings

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Experience in dealing with traded products and the trade approval process i.e. dealing with traders and sales coverage
  • Understanding of financial markets, credit analysis and ability to analyse key risks and mitigants
  • Familiarity with financial products e.g., swaps, FX, equities (preferred) and legal documentation (e.g. ISDA, CSAs)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to provide information in usable formats (proficiency in Microsoft office, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, both written and verbally
  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed way including change initiatives or process improvements
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, often balancing multiple high priority deliverables
  • Strong analytical skills; experience in financial analysis and modelling (preferred)
  • Proficiency in SQL, VBA, Python/R (preferred)
  • Fluency in English is required, plus another European language would be an advantage
