We’re seeking someone to join our team as a Associate in Shared Services and Banking Operations. In the Operations division, we partner with business units across the Firm to support financial transactions, devise and implement effective controls and develop client relationships. This is an Associate level position level position within the Core Services. The Japan Asset Services consists of two main products - Equity and Fix Income. It is a part of Global Asset Services within Morgan Stanley and supports Japan market for Japanese clients, in house traders and offshore Morgan Stanley entities as Standing Proxy Agent. The teams are responsible for dividends / corporate actions / proxy / coupons / redemptions as well as projects for process improvements / tighter controls / efficiencies.
Team members are responsible on a day-to-day basis for followings and Directors are also responsible for leading team and supervising those for business running accordingly.

Job Description:
  • Execute processes/functions and/or support process management and project efforts, leveraging knowledge of the systems, markets and instruments that influence the team
  • Recognize risk in day-to-day processes to draw out the key issues and contribute to process improvements
  • CSG function: Inquiry management for front office and clients. Providing payment confirmation and performing phone confirmation
  • Research function: Ensuring accuracy of dividends / corporate actions / coupons / redemptions event details and send notification to clients
  • Deadline function: Ensuring accuracy of client entitlements on key date. Monitoring client instructions / elections for voluntary events and submit instructions to agent banks
  • Payment function: Ensuring accuracy of receipts from agent banks and allocating payments to client accounts in internal books & records, and performing external payments
  • Reconciliations / break resolutions
  • Tax related process: Withholding tax payments, documentation
  • Preparation and submission of the regulatory reporting
  • Managing projects for new businesses / efficiencies / legacy system eliminations with technologies / global counterparts
What you’ll bring to the role:
  • Excellent communication skills in both Japanese and English
  • A self-starter and highly motivated
  • Ability to adapt existing skills in a new environment
  • Understanding of operational risk and controls
  • Understanding of timely escalations
  • Ability to perform well under pressure
  • Ability to think laterally and pursue opportunities for system / process improvements
  • Ability to handle multi tasks and attention to details
  • Team player
  • Understanding of equity and fixed income as business
  • Asset servicing background (both equity and fixed income)
  • Other operations background preferred i.e. as settlements etc
  • Willingness to learn/try new challenges
  • Detail oriented mindset
  • JSDA class 1 and 2 (internal control manager preferred)
  • At least 2 years’ relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role
