Skills and Competencies
  • Strong foundations in software engineering with Python and at least one additional programming language such as Java, C#, Go, C++, or Rust, including the ability to write clean, testable, and maintainable code
  • Introductory experience working with data processing and unstructured data formats such as HTML, PDF, and XML, gained through coursework, internships, personal projects, or early career roles
  • Familiarity with web technologies or data acquisition techniques, including APIs, basic scraping approaches, or ETL concepts
  • Exposure to cloud platforms, with AWS preferred, and an understanding of containerization concepts; hands-on experience is a plus but not required
  • Understanding of CI/CD fundamentals, version control using Git, and automated testing practices
  • Basic awareness of AI, machine learning, or large language model concepts, with an interest in applying AI-enabled tools to improve data quality and engineering workflows
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment, actively participate in code reviews, and communicate technical ideas clearly
  • Strong learning mindset with the ability to ramp up quickly in new domains, tools, and technologies
Education
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Responsibilities
This role supports the development, enhancement, and operation of data acquisition and extraction pipelines that process unstructured data from public and regulatory sources while building foundational software engineering skills in a production environment
  • Contribute to the development and operation of data acquisition and extraction pipelines that ingest and process unstructured data from public and regulatory sources
  • Implement enhancements to Python- or Java-based workflows under the guidance of senior engineers, following established design patterns and best practices
  • Assist in building and maintaining pipelines that transform unstructured documents into validated, structured datasets
  • Collaborate with data engineering, enrichment, and machine learning teams to integrate tagging, classification, and metadata enrichment outputs
  • Participate in a bi-weekly delivery cadence, shipping incremental improvements such as new data sources, extraction enhancements, or reliability fixes
  • Learn and apply production engineering practices, including testing, monitoring, logging, and basic incident response
  • Contribute to AI- or LLM-assisted parsing and extraction workflows by implementing prompts, evaluations, or supporting components
  • Actively seek feedback through code reviews and retrospectives, demonstrating continuous improvement in code quality and system understanding
About the Team
The Unstructured Data Team builds a cost-efficient, scalable, and self-service platform that acquires, extracts, and prepares high-quality datasets used across Moodys. The team works with diverse global data sources and partners closely with data engineering, AI/ML, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, production-ready pipelines. As a junior engineer on the team, you will learn by building, gaining hands-on experience with real-world data, modern engineering practices, and emerging AI-assisted workflows in a collaborative and supportive environment.
