Your Impact

As the Ethics & Compliance (E&C) Associate Director of Investigations, you will lead in driving and shaping the Ethics program including implementing strategic and operational initiatives, specifically operating in a team which manages investigations of concerns.
You will lead, manage and remediate key risk areas across our firms E&C program, including proving leadership in addressing legal, regulatory and compliance related reviews. You will be expected to demonstrate your expertise in navigating complex and multifaceted issues to achieve a risk-based resolution.
You will lead a high-impact team of investigators who are handling multi-faceted and complex investigations. You will provide experienced leadership to support those investigations, including in addressing legal, regulatory and compliance risk issues. You will oversee the operations of investigations, including reviewing investigation plans, making key decisions on progress and reviewing final outcome reports. You will support the growth and development needs of the team through processes such as review, recruitment, onboarding and coaching.
You will lead on continuous improvement activities, including the design and delivery of guidance, standards, procedures and reporting expectations. You will ensure relevant training and skills-needs are addressed within the scope of the investigations program. You will lead in the development of creating and reinforcing consistency across our firm, identifying opportunities to enhance and evolve investigations within the firm.
You will work closely with E&C leadership to ensure information regarding investigations, including timeliness of investigations, is periodically reported through defined internal processes.

You will support the implementation and maintenance of case management tools to enhance capabilities and ensure data quality, accurate record-keeping and document management. You will develop solutions tailored to the unique needs of our firm and the expectations of regulators, and you will be expected to collaborate and align with a varied set of stakeholders across all firm functions (Legal, Internal Audit, Finance & HR).
You will be given latitude to drive and own relevant organizational, operational, or strategic E&C initiatives and engage in collaborative partnership with other E&C colleagues and stakeholders.
Finally, you will play a critical role in sustaining and evolving our E&C program and upholding our commitment to integrity and lawful practices.
You will be part of McKinseys Ethics and Compliance (E&C) function and will be based in North America. The E&C functions mission is to manage risks to the firm, our clients, and our people, while also enabling the firms client impact and innovation. The E&C function is a globally integrated team within the second line of defense of the firm. McKinsey has an E&C program that is structured in a way that ensures that it is well designed, empowered to function effectively, and works in practice. Our E&C program includes a clear message that misconduct is not tolerated as well as policies, procedures, training, monitoring and consequence management to ensure the program is well-integrated into the firms operations and workforce. Your qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree(s) and or applicable professional certifications preferred; Juris Doctor (JD) strongly preferred 
  • 10+ years of professional experience in legal, regulatory, compliance environments; attorneys with Big Law and/or in house experience preferred 
  • 10+ years of professional experience in leading and managing complex investigations, including litigation, internal investigations, or regulatory reviews 
  • 10+ years of technical experience in identifying and addressing legal, regulatory and compliance related issues, including multifaceted investigations  
  • Experience with using third party case management technologies to drive complex investigations  
  • Strong Excel, Tableau (or other data visualization technology), analytical and data management skills preferred 
  • Demonstrates an entrepreneurial mindset to progress on ambiguous problems and see them through to resolution 
  • Adept at influencing and engaging with all types of audiences to cultivate trust-based, peer-counselor relationships 
  • Builds trust-based relationships with leaders within and outside of the team; collaborates generously with others and is sought after as a key thought partner 
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with ability to drive to outcomes on cross-functional and complex topics 
  • Exhibit highest levels of discretion and judgment in safeguarding highly sensitive and confidential materials
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and craft cohesive storylines and communications
