Full Job Description

The Directory Services Security Team (DSST) who are responsible for the management and control of privileged groups and accounts, various project workstreams and the overall security posture of the active directory and other LDAP environments, are looking for a Unix/Linux security specialist to join the team.

You will need to have a good understanding of the technologies used for the implementation of security initiatives and standards. You will have demonstrable experience in developing, maintaining, advising, and hardening operating systems and common applications.

You'll be implementing controls to lockdown and secure systems and devices. It is a highly focused, security centric role, looking at the standard methodologies for securing our privileged access accounts, security groups and servers within the estate. We proactively prevent and resolve vulnerabilities on servers in the Group. The whole team possesses broad skills including an emphasis on Security as well as problem solving through to resolution.

Day-to-day activities include

Lead multiple streams of work, project resource requests and out-of-hours/weekend support demands when required

Evaluate 3rd party security products and associated proof of concept environments

Provide recommendations on security designs

Write and maintain appropriate documentation related to the domain area including plans

Provide frequent status reports of all implementation tasks and maintain risks and issues for management as and if they arise

Ensure changes are accurately impact assessed, are represented at relevant boards for approval and implemented successfully and provide full aftercare assistance

Provide technical Support and direction for all security implementations and new standards and procedures to Service desk and staff

Assist with all Security related project work as well as BAU tasks as directed by Team leader

Crucial Skills

College degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience

10+ years of Unix/Linux IT experience including system and network administration

Expertise in Unix server hardening, including secure configuration of root and service accounts, and enforcement of access controls via user groups and system-level policies. Validated ability with common enterprise security platforms e.g. SIEM, CrowdStrike, Qualys, Beyond Trust

Experience implementing and managing Security-Enhanced Linux for mandatory access control and system policy enforcement.

Skilled in configuring and maintaining audited for system auditing, event tracking, and compliance reporting.

3+ years of experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS

Good communication skills both written and verbal

Ability to adapt to the constantly evolving technology landscape

Effectively understand and implement complex systems

Vulnerability scanning and management

Private Key Infrastructure

Multi-factor authentication

Highly Desirable Skills

Experience of Kerberos would be an advantage

Ability to develop, test, implement and document solutions to a very high standard.

Excellent investigation and resolution of sophisticated issues and ability to locate application owners and collaborate closely with them.

Motivated self-starter who can work independently as well as part of a team.

High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Able to take direction from others when needed and not afraid to ask for help.

Ability to learn new concepts and products with ease.

Ability to think quickly and critically and look for alternative solutions in challenging situations.

Ability to produce clear and accurate documentation and train/hand-off design and implementation work.

Ability to report in a formal and structured method.
