As a Software Engineer II at JPMorgan Chase within the Employee Platforms Team, you are part of an agile team that works to enhance, design, and deliver the software components of the firms state-of-the-art technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As an emerging member of a software engineering team, you execute software solutions through the design, development, and technical troubleshooting of multiple components within a technical product, application, or system, while gaining the skills and experience needed to grow within your role.

Job responsibilities

  • Design and implement highly available, scalable AWS infrastructure in partnership with development teams.
  • Architect applications for reliability, fault tolerance, and resilience across services and regions.
  • Automate deployments, scaling, and operational tasks with scripts and tooling.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code to provision and manage environments consistently.
  • Set up and maintain monitoring and alerting to proactively detect issues and enable rapid response.
  • Respond to incidents, coordinate remediation with engineering and operations, and minimize downtime.
  • Conduct post-incident reviews, capture root causes, and drive corrective actions.
  • Analyze performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize throughput, latency, and resource utilization.
  • Enforce security best practices and collaborate with security teams to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and release processes for reliable, automated deployments and rollbacks.
  • Document architectures, configurations, and runbooks; train partner teams to support and operate the stack.

 

 Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills 

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 2+ years applied experience       
  • Demonstrate experience as an Application SRE or in a closely related role.
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of AWS services, architectures, and best practices.
  • Code fluently in scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or Ruby.
  • Build and operate containerized workloads with Docker and orchestrate with Kubernetes.
  • Leverage application performance monitoring and log analysis tools to troubleshoot and optimize.
  • Apply security practices and meet compliance requirements for cloud-hosted applications.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code with tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Operate CI/CD pipelines using platforms such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
  • Monitor and visualize system health using AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, and Grafana, and manage logs with ELK or OpenSearch.

 

 Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills 

  • Hold AWS certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
  • Architect and operate serverless workloads with AWS Lambda and managed event services.
  • Apply application-level security best practices across authentication, authorization, and secrets management.
  • Use AWS managed services for databases, caching, and messaging to design resilient, cost-effective solutions.
