You are customer focused, enjoy building relationships and providing financial advice to your clients. A role as a Commercial Banker is for you. As a Commercial Banker within the Innovation Economy Portfolio (IEP) Debt Solutions Team, you will you will be responsible for growing and managing the Innovation Economy debt portfolio while cross-collaborating with Relationship and Investment Bankers, Credit Partners, and our Venture Capital Relationship Team within Commercial and Specialized Industries. This position will be a generalist role covering; Technology, Green Economy, Consumer, Healthcare, and Life Sciences. 

 

The IEP Debt Solutions Team is a key component of the firm’s overall Innovation Economy (IE) business, by partnering with both internal and external partners, we manage a fast-paced ever- changing debt portfolio. In this role you will be collaborating with Relationship Bankers and Credit to assist in debt structuring, market and company analysis, negotiating transactions, leading training sessions, coordinating debt partnerships and portfolio management. We work both independently and as part of a dynamic team to deliver the entire firm to our clients and support the world’s most innovative companies. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the ability to efficiently and effectively review debt diligence packages and work with Credit to construct creative debt solutions for innovation economy clients and prospects.  
  • Develop new business by evaluating credit opportunities, deepening existing relationships, and by delivering the entire Firm
  • Participate in internal strategic discussions with partners across all our solutions including Investment Banking, Capital Markets, Credit, and Payments  
  • Champion a culture of innovation and a customer-centric mindset balanced with the ability to manage risk (credit, operational, and reputational) appropriately  
  • Be passionate about innovation, the start-up eco-system and entrepreneurship, with a strong desire to stay up to date with industry trends and identify opportunities for innovation and strategic partnerships 

 

Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • 5+ Years of related experience in Credit and Relationship Banking with a focus on debt structuring and excellent client relationship skills
  • Extensive knowledge of credit, corporate finance, treasury, commercial, and investment banking products
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to establish credibility and strong partnerships with senior business and control partners 
  • Ability to assess risks inherent in complex credit transactions and mitigate, structure, and negotiate accordingly
  • Exercises sound decision-making and independent judgment while effectively influencing and driving key decisions.
  • Outstanding professional reputation and integrity
  • Excellent problem solving, oral, and written communication skills
  • This position requires some travel, including attendance at events, trainings, and bank meetings nationwide.

 

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Formal credit or investment banking training
  • Highly skilled at comprehending and interpreting requests, shows proactive initiative, dedication to ongoing learning, and flexibility in responding to evolving demands and requirements.
  • Knowledgeable of the Venture Capital and Private Equity ecosystem
  • Ability to partner across lines of businesses and leverage internal resources 
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and control framework
