Job Summary: 

As a member of our APAC Capital Markets (CM) Legal team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our dynamic and fast-paced capital markets business across the Asia Pacific region. You will provide expert legal advice, ensure regulatory compliance, and help drive innovative legal solutions for complex transactions. Your work will span a broad range of products and jurisdictions, collaborating closely with business partners, risk and control teams, and external counsel. Demonstrating strategic thought leadership and a commitment to best practices, you will leverage your deep understanding of capital markets and regulatory frameworks to deliver practical, business-focused legal solutions. Job responsibilities: 

 

  • Provide legal support primarily to the CM business across Asia Pacific (including Japan, Korea and Australia);

  • Serve as an integral part of the APAC Banking Legal Practice Group, collaborating daily with legal colleagues in Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney, Korea, Shanghai and Mumbai; as well as interacting with legal teams in other regions (such as US, UK, Europe);

  • Partner closely with the CM Legal Team, coverage bankers, MTN Syndicate Desk and other stakeholders in connection with bond offerings (including Reg S and Reg S/144A offerings), MTN program related matters (including establishment, annual updates and drawdowns, syndicated and reverse inquiry trades) and select CM transactions;

  • Lead the review, negotiation and/or drafting of legal documentation such as confidentiality agreements, mandate letters, program/subscription agreements, auditor letters and related documentation, ensuring alignment with internal guidance and standard operating procedures; 

  • Manage relationships with external counsels in connection with bond offerings, MTN program related matters and select CM transactions; including the review and negotiation of legal opinions and supervising legal due diligence conducted by external counsels;

  • Advise business teams in respect of legal and reputational risk issues while coordinating with risk and control functions (including Compliance, Conflicts Office, Business Management) to support sound decision-making; and
  • Keep abreast of legal and regulatory developments and contribute to knowledge management and enhancement of internal processes and best practices. 

 

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills: 

 

  • Qualified lawyer in India/Mumbai with minimum 5 years post-qualification experience (PQE), licensed and/or eligible to practice law and a member in good standing or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of India/Mumbai. Additional qualification from Hong Kong, Singapore, US and/or England & Wales. 

  • International capital markets experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house experience in a leading international financial institution, in particular, bond offerings or MTN program related work experience.

  • Strong drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills with a keen attention to detail. 

  • Pragmatic with the ability to balance commercial objectives of the business with the protection of JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s interests as a whole.

  • Excellent written and spoken English, outstanding communication skills, with the ability to interact with senior business personnel and stakeholders in other functions.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to cover matters across time zones with regional and global stakeholders, with proven ability to handle competing priorities, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain high standards in a dynamic global environment.

  • Self-directed and highly motivated attitude coupled with an ability to work collaboratively in a high performing team.
