Full Job Description

Discover ING Hubs Romania

ING Hubs Romania offers 130 services in software development, data management, non-financial risk & compliance, audit, and retail operations to 24 ING units worldwide, with the help of over 2000 high-performing engineers, risk, and operations professionals.

We started out in 2015 as INGs software development hub, then steadily expanded our range to include more services and competencies. Now we provide borderless services with bank-wide capabilities and operate from two locations: Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca

Our tech capabilities remain the core of our business, with more than 1800 colleagues active in Data and Analytics Tech, Tech Foundation and Channels, Retail Core Banking and Architecture, and Global Products and Technology Services.

We enjoy a flexible way of working and a highly collaborative environment, where fair and constructive feedback is encouraged.

For us, impact isn't a perk. It's the driver of our work. We are guided and rewarded by a shared desire to make the world a better place, one innovative solution at a time. Our colleagues make it their job to do impactful things and they love doing it in good company. Do you?

The Mission
As Service Mesh engineer you will work in a squad with 11 other engineers that have similar skills as you. Together you develop and support the internally developed service mesh solution using Envoy, a proxy that takes care of observability, resiliency and security in our service mesh. The service mesh is used globally and its userbase is global as well. It is being used by 800+ teams and 2000+ microservices. And you make sure that all teams and applications reach the Golden State by promoting the microservices golden path and correct usage of the service mesh!

You make customers successful, by helping users to tackle issues related to our product. All squad members take part in this technical support towards users.

Your day to day

In the morning, you start by joining the team ceremony, the daily standup. Together with your squad, you align on progress, upcoming work, and anything that needs extra attention. After that, you pair with a colleague and pick the next relevant user story and spend some time reviewing pull requests from your teammates, giving thoughtful feedback and keeping quality high.

Later in the morning, you realise theres an upcoming internal conference that would be a great opportunity to share how teams are using the platform. You take it on to contribute by preparing a short talk to advocate to a broader audience how to adopt the product you work on.

In the afternoon, you connect with a product team that has questions about integrating with the service mesh. You walk through their setup together, help them troubleshoot, and update the documentation along the way so the next team benefits as well. During the session, it becomes clear they were still on an older version giving you a concrete data point to feed back into the teams backlog to improve automation and write-up how OpenRewrite can provide upgrade guidance for everyone.

By the end of the day, youve delivered code, helped users move forward, improved the product experience, and strengthened the ecosystem around it.

What youll bring to the team

  • 10+ years experience as a Software Engineer
  • DevOps as Cloud-minded Engineer
  • Go or similar systems language: Experience with Go, Rust, or C-family languages
  • A polyglot mindset and eagerness to learn new languages and technologies
  • AKS or Kubernetes experience
  • Experience with Envoy proxy is important, and contributions to OSS Envoy is a plus
