Full Job Description

As a Product Controller, you will join the team that performs the Product Control for several trading desks. The team is part of the Product Control (PC) department in Amsterdam.  PC is a global function within ING and is moving into the Finance function. Responsibilities cover Product Control for the trading activities within Financial Markets (FM), covering Equity Derivatives Trading and Collateral Exposure Management (CEM).

The core activities of the team are measuring and analyzing the day-to-day Profit and Loss (P&L) generated by the trading desk and monitoring, whilst understanding market drivers, P&L explain and risk exposures, as well as the valuations and in the trading books. Core to the role is the understanding and developing valuations, the control environment, development of new products, position keeping and system migrations, regulatory compliance projects and continuous system improvements.

Your key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Produce accurate and timely daily P&L and risk reports.

  • Provide clear commentary explaining P&L movements and market dynamics.

  • Understand P&L drivers, product characteristics, and the risk profile of trading strategies.

  • Follow up on limit breaches with traders and apply appropriate challenge.

  • Develop a strong understanding of front-to-back processes, system architecture, and support business changes (e.g., new product approvals).

  • Ensure an effective and efficient control environment, including SOX compliance.

  • Reduce reliance on End User Computing (EUC) tools by embedding controls into systems.

  • Validate valuations and valuation parameters (price testing, valuation adjustments, reserves, Fair Value reporting, Day One P&L).

  • Engage actively with Front Office as a business partner to discuss market developments and business initiatives.

  • Participate in global projects such as Valuation Risk, Financial Markets Enhancement (FME), Market Data Roadmap, and BCBS 239.

  • Support system enhancements for Position Keeping, Deal Capture, and downstream reporting.

  • Liaise with internal and external auditors when required.

  • Strong financial product knowledge and solid mathematical foundation.

  • Preferably an accounting background (e.g., audit or accountancy practice).

  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to summarize complex concepts.

  • Team player able to collaborate across functions and regions.

  • Ability to understand the business perspective of Front Office projects.

  • Flexible and adaptable mindset.

  • Fluency in English.

  • Programming experience (VBA, Python, etc.) is a strong advantage.
