The team

The team that you will be joining is a multidisciplinary and cross-functional team with end-to-end responsibility for Global Data Centres Services and the delivery of these services to INGs business. You will work closely together with the other teams within ING.

As Data Centre Infrastructure Engineer you are a member of the Global Data Centres Services department. This department contains four teams. (Operations 1 - OPS1, Operations 2 - OPS2, Hardware as a Service - HaaS and Centre of Excellence - CoE). OPS1 is responsible for all hard services within the ING Global Data Centres. Such as maintaining and developing the Data Centre cooling and electrical grid. HaaS is responsible for ordering, storing, delivery and decommissioning of IT infrastructure within the Data Centres. CoE is responsible for advising, risk control and auditing specialised on Data Centres.

You will work in the team of OPS2. OPS2 is responsible for all activities within the white space of the ING Data Centres. These activities include:

  • Managing the overall capacity planning for power, cooling, space and networking for optimal Data Centre usage and scalability
  • Physical access and security to all data halls
  • Supervise and coordinate physical IMACD activities (Install, Move, Add Change or Decommissioning of ICT infrastructure) and check the work performed
  • Install and maintaining the Power Distribution Units in the data halls
  • Managing applications such as Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and Lock management
  • Automating our processes and applications

Roles and responsibilities

As a Data Centre Infrastructure engineer, you will be responsible for the physical deployment and maintenance of critical IT hardware and cabling systems. Your key tasks include:

  • Installing, cabling, and powering servers, storage, and network equipment
  • Building and maintaining cold/hot aisle containment to optimize airflow and efficiency
  • Executing structured copper and fiber optic cabling, including testing and labelling
  • Performing advanced fiber optic procedures such as fusion splicing and OTDR analysis
  • Installing cable tray systems and managing physical infrastructure scalability
  • Configuring server management interfaces (e.g., iLO, iDRAC) per instructions
  • Troubleshooting Layer 1/2 connectivity issues and resolving hardware faults
  • Using DCIM and ticketing systems for asset tracking and incident management
  • Documenting cable routes, asset data, and changes

  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Dutch
  • You at least have a diploma in IT, Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline
  • You must have basic knowledge of electrical safety standards, preferably NEN3140 (VOP Minimum, VP preferred)
  • You have a valid VCA
  • You have a valid drivers license (B) and willing to travel between our datacentre sites
  • You have the flexibility to work outside of standard business hours when necessary
  • You can lead projects, create work instructions, do quality assurance and 'give hands' to the people who need it
  • Team oriented mindset with hands on attitude and attention to detail

Pre's:

  • You have proven experience in datacenter infrastructures, like rack and stack, cold/hot aisle containment and structured cabling
  • Advanced knowledge of fiber optics: installation, splicing, OTDR testing, troubleshooting (SingleMode and MultiMode OS2/OM4/OM5)
  • Strong diagnostic skills in physical and data link layer networking, including resolution of port failures and signal degradation
  • Skilled at identifying, isolating and resolving connectivity issues (loops, bad ports, mismatched optics, etc.)
  • Familiarity with cable documentation standards and physical network design principles
  • An extra advantage is when you have previous work experience in Electrical Engineering
  • Other information:
  • The locations are Rotterdam and Roosendaal
  • You do not mind to participate in stand-by
  • Ability to work non-office hours
