Full Job Description

Role Purpose:

  • Evaluate, provide advice and guidance on, approve and recommend Corporate / Bank / Non-Bank Financial Institution / Securities transactions and annual reviews in a manner which safeguards the bank’s capital and reputation while contributing to its growth aspirations
  • Manage traded credit / market risk tasks under guidance from regional risk teams
  • Conduct sustainability risk reviews for recommendation to regional Sustainability & Reputational Risk
  • Proactively monitor the quality of the credit portfolio and assist businesses to identify potential problem accounts and establish appropriate action strategies

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Identify emerging risks through Portfolio Management strategies and initiate mitigation strategies
  • Maintain Non-Performing Advances (NPAs) and Impairment Provisions within acceptable norms
  • Adoption of Group/Regional policies and guidance, and ensure that they are consistently applied
  • Promote sound asset quality of Japan’s portfolio and safeguard the Bank from potential credit losses
  • Promote a forward-looking view of risk within the organization
  • Provide Head of Wholesale Credit Risk (HoWCR) with credit related risk updates to be presented in risk management meetings and related governance forums
  • Build effective relationships with businesses and regional risk
  • Assist in the development of businesses skill base, as well as promote understanding of risk policy
  • Prepare external / internal reports and/or presentations to regulators and internal stakeholders
  • Work effectively with the Risk team as well as business / product / functional teams
  • Support HoWCR to achieve effective implementation of Risk and/or Group strategy
  • Assist HoWCR to establish / monitor Strategic Plan, Risk Appetite, and other initiatives and key issues
  • Contribute by participating and completing Risk related projects
  • Timely respond to businesses in line with SLA’s and specific business needs
  • Maintain HSBC’s high internal control standards and ensure that financial / non-financial risks are properly monitored
  • Adequately identify, assess, mitigate and control operational risks within the Wholesale Credit Risk approval team
  • Understand various credit systems, and engage in the implementation and/or testing for upgrades

Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Typically holds undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Finance or a related field
  • At least 5~10 years of experience in credit risk management, financial analysis and corporate/commercial banking with strong knowledge of Bank products
  • Working knowledge of traded credit and market risk
  • Experience in managing internal and/or external audits
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to clearly articulate reasons for approval / recommendation
  • Strong language skills in both Japanese (native) and English (fluent) to manage communication with stakeholders and regulators
  • Understand and interpret complex business requirements
  • Proven ability to prioritise competing demands
  • Demonstrated the ability to assess risk trends across industries and countries
  • Professional qualifications in accounting or credit analysis are preferable
