Full Job Description

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Platform Engineering Lead.

As a Platform Engineering Lead, you’ll design, build, and deploy Agentic AI and Generative AI solutions (LLMs Large Language Models), Multi-Agent Systems, Transformers) for enterprise applications including autonomous agents, chatbots, content generation, search, and intelligent automation. You’ll work closely with product and engineering teams, you’ll deliver scalable, governed AI agent systems across fintech, tech, and data-focused platforms, leveraging Python, modern (ML Machine Learning) frameworks, cloud services, and enterprise MLOps practices.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you’ll:

  • Own Python service design on cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure), ensuring alignment with architecture, security, and compliance standards
  • Build APIs and microservices using frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, or Django; implement (Infrastructure as Code IaC) with Terraform or CloudFormation; and manage CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab, Argo)
  • Enable SRE practices by defining SLAs/SLOs, ensuring resilience (autoscaling, failover), disaster recovery, and leading incident response and postmortems
  • Optimize systems for latency, throughput, cost, and regulatory compliance; implement runtime security measures (CVE remediation, Vault/KMS)
  • Produce design documents and runbooks; champion automation, DevSecOps, and observability (using tools like Open Telemetry, Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Collaborate with product, backend, and frontend teams to deliver enterprise-grade AI features and integrate AI agent solutions into existing software/SaaS platforms with proper governance controls
  • Own complete AI lifecycle: agent orchestration, data pipelines, training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and governance (MLOps)

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Proficiency in Python (essential) and solid software engineering practices, including API design and microservices
  • Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Hugging Face ecosystem, and agent frameworks like AutoGen or CrewAI
  • Knowledge of multi-agent systems, agent orchestration, A2A protocols (OpenAPI, AsyncAPI), Model Context Protocol, LLMs, Transformers, prompt engineering, and RAG design
  • Understanding of model risk management, bias detection, explainability, audit trails, and regulatory compliance
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, ML flow, CI/CD tools, and observability platforms
  • Familiarity with deep learning, Natural Language Processing, MLOps, data engineering, vector search, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures
  • Security, compliance, and privacy in UK/EU contexts (GDPR, AI Act, model governance, data lineage)

Opening up a world of opportunity.

Being open to different points of view is important for our business and the communities we serve. At HSBC, we’re dedicated to creating diverse and inclusive workplaces - no matter their gender, ethnicity, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or age.
