Full Job Description

Senior Consulting Actuary – Non-Traditional Applied Risk, Strategy & Impact

A highly regarded consulting practice is seeking a qualified actuary to join its expanding advisory team, working on complex, high-impact problems that sit well outside traditional insurance or pensions roles.

This opportunity is designed for actuaries who enjoy applied problem-solving, strategic thinking, and influencing senior decision-makers — rather than operating within narrow product lines or regulatory frameworks.

The Work

The role involves advising on a wide range of bespoke, analytical and strategic engagements, including:

  • Long-term risk and uncertainty modelling

  • Assurance and challenge of complex financial and economic analysis

  • Strategic funding and investment decisions

  • Compensation, remediation and contingent liability frameworks

  • Infrastructure, energy and environmental risk

  • High-stakes decision-making under uncertainty

Projects are varied, intellectually demanding, and require clear communication of complex concepts to non-technical audiences.

Your Role

You will:

  • Lead and contribute to consulting engagements from scoping through to delivery

  • Review, challenge and improve models, assumptions and methodologies

  • Translate complex analysis into clear, evidence-based advice

  • Work closely with senior stakeholders on sensitive and high-profile issues

  • Manage multiple concurrent projects in a consulting environment

This is a role where judgement, curiosity and communication are just as important as technical actuarial expertise.

Level, Progression & Reward

  • Open to senior-level qualified actuaries, with entry point depending on experience

  • Compensation: circa £90k–£100k initially, with clear scope for rapid progression into more senior bands

  • Six-figure compensation achievable through progression rather than external moves

  • Exceptional work–life balance relative to most consulting roles

  • Outstanding long-term benefits package, including a market-leading defined benefit pension

While headline salary may be lower than some private-sector roles, the overall value, stability and lifestyle are highly compelling.

Who This Suits

They are keen to speak with qualified actuaries from a GI, Life, Pensions or Consulting background who:

  • Are intellectually curious and enjoy variety

  • Want to move beyond regulatory-heavy work (e.g. IFRS 17, Solvency II, Matching Adjustments)

  • Enjoy influencing decisions rather than producing routine outputs

  • Value autonomy, balance and long-term career development

No prior experience in this type of environment is required.

Why This Role Is Different

  • No product silos

  • No regulatory treadmill

  • No repetitive reporting cycles

  • Genuine breadth and intellectual stretch

  • Real-world consequences to your work

  • A consulting role designed for sustainability, not burnout
