GLOBAL COMPLIANCE

Our division prevents, detects and mitigates compliance, regulatory and reputational risk across the firm and helps to strengthen the firm’s culture of compliance. Compliance accomplishes these through the firm’s enterprise-wide compliance risk management program. As an independent control function and part of the firm’s second line of defense, Compliance assesses the firm’s compliance, regulatory and reputational risk; monitors for compliance with new or amended laws, rules and regulations; designs and implements controls, policies, procedures and training; conducts independent testing; investigates, surveils and monitors for compliance risks and breaches; and leads the firm’s responses to regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries. You'll be part of a team with members from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, such as law, accounting, sales, and trading. We look for those who possess sound judgment, curiosity, and can adapt to a changing regulatory landscape.

 Candidate will work as part of the GS Bank (“Bank”) Compliance team with primary focus on (i) matters related to Regulation W Compliance with respect to the Bank’s transactions with affiliates and (ii) matters related to the Bank’s international activities under Regulation K and (iii) the determination of Bank eligibility for both lending and capital markets activities transacted within the Bank. The position requires analytical skills to review transactions of varying levels of complexity and identify Bank regulatory impacts. The candidate will have responsibilities pertaining to the implementation of the Bank’s Compliance Risk Management Program, including policy development and application, risk assessment, training, and regulatory exam coordination. The role will require strong communication skills to articulate regulatory implications as well as the ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail. The role requires the ability to prioritize time-sensitive deliverables on a day-to-day basis. The candidate will be required to interact with and manage workflow involving both the business side (e.g., Global Banking & Markets, Asset & Wealth Management) and Federation groups (e.g., Legal, Operations, Controllers, Treasury and Risk). 

The candidate’s responsibilities would include:

  • Review and determination of Bank eligibility for lending activities
  • Understanding, applying, and providing advice on applicable Bank regulations (e.g., Regulations W, K and O)
  • Support and provide guidance on new business initiatives conducted in Bank.
  • Cross-departmental project management and involvement
  • Bank Compliance Risk Management Program (policies, training, risk assessment) implementation
  • Creation and implementation of compliance training programs for Business and Federation personnel
  • Participate in regulatory and internal investigations as well as both internal audit and external regulatory examinations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in the US investment banking and/or financial services industry.
  • Ability to understand and apply complex regulations.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience leading small or medium scale projects.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and relationship building abilities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Expertise in delivering high quality work products, reflecting attention to detail and analytical prowess.
  • Ability to organize, plan and execute key deliverables and to meet challenging deadlines.
  • Professional maturity and confidence in expressing a point of view 
  • Must be self-directed, organized, positive, driven, detail-oriented, and effective in a fast-paced, changing environment. 
  • Professional maturity and confidence in expressing a point of view with senior management.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Risk management experience in Compliance, Legal, Audit or related field
  • Project management experience with ability to build rapport, garner respect, and appropriately exercise judgment and decision making in a collaborative consensus-driven environment. 
  • Management skills and ability to resolve conflicting situations.
  • Experience building and maintaining key relationships, establishing, and fostering a culture of stakeholder engagement, and leveraging strong communications skills to interact across global teams.
  • Knowledge of applicable U.S. Banking regulations such as Reg W, Reg K and Reg O
  • Strong relationship management skills with ability to deepen relationships and build partnerships across the business and key functional support areas like Internal Audit, Legal, Technology, and Risk
  • Past experience building and maintaining key relationships, establishing and fostering a culture of stakeholder engagement, and leveraging strong communications skills to interact across departments and functions
