Murrin Murrin Operations has an opportunity for an experienced Automotive Technician to join our established and dedicated team.

Murrin Murrin Operations is Australias largest cobalt producer and a major world producer of nickel. Our Murrin Murrin site in WAs northern Goldfields is an integrated nickel and cobalt mining and processing operation employing over 1,000 people. The Role

Mechanical Fitter - Strategy and Improvement Focus

We are seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Mechanical Fitter to join the Ore Leach Maintenance team. This role goes beyond traditional maintenance duties and plays a key part in driving reliability improvements, supporting capital initiatives, and contributing to long-term maintenance strategies across the plant.

The successful candidate will work closely with Supervisors, Coordinators, and Superintendents to identify improvement opportunities, reduce downtime, and enhance asset performance, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and cost control.


Key Requirements

  • Trade qualified Mechanical Fitter
  • Experience in fixed plant maintenance within mining or processing environments
  • Strong understanding of reliability principles and continuous improvement practices
  • Exposure to SAP or similar maintenance management systems
  • Ability to contribute to budgeting, planning, and capital project development
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Actively contribute to Ore Leach improvement strategies and critical equipment plans (CFP)
  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities to increase plant uptime and efficiency
  • Assist in developing and reviewing Safe Work Instructions (SWIs) and maintenance procedures


Capital & Budget Support

  • Assist in the development of Capital Approval Requests (CARs) and improvement justifications
  • Provide input into maintenance budgets, cost-saving initiatives, and forecasting


ystems & Documentation

  • Utilise SAP for work order management, history tracking, and planning support
  • Assist with ANSI development and standardisation of plant equipment
  • Ensure accurate documentation of maintenance activities and improvement works


About You


This role would suit a driven Mechanical Fitter with previous experience working in a similar hydrometallurgical process plant who is looking for job security and career opportunities.

You will also have:

  • Australian Recognised Mechanical Trade Qualification (Essential)
  • A current and valid manual Australian Drivers licence
  • Accountability and pride in their work
  • A strong eye for detail and a drive to improve standards
  • A proactive nature in identifying issues and delivering solutions
  • A desire to be part of a team focused on long-term improvement not just reactive maintenance
  • Proven experience with centrifugal and positive displacement pumps
  • Proven experience working with all types of fixed plant piping, valves, and laser alignment
  • Ideally have experienced sizer screens, mills, thickener tanks & related agitators, and various pumps. Experience with HPAL Autoclaves is highly desirable for this role.
  • Previous Autoclave experience (desirable)
  • Experience working with area permit systems; safe work instructions and hazard identification
