About the role:

Reporting to the Manager, Geological Engineering, the person in this role will be an important member of a highly experienced team of geotechnical professionals in EVRs central Technical Services group who apply leading practices to support safe production at multiple open pit steelmaking coal operations in complex ground conditions, investigation and design work for future mining areas, and the geotechnical aspects of reclamation and closure work for non-operating sites.

This role provides a wide range of skills development and experience including slope performance monitoring, geotechnical analyses, design work for pit slopes and waste rock dumps, geotechnical hazard identification and risk management. The work includes collaboration with central and site-based senior geotechnical engineers, mining engineers, and other disciplines.

To be successful, we are looking for someone who has a learning mindset along with an interest in being an active participant in EVRs geotechnical community of practice (approx. 30 personnel across EVRs site-based and central teams) to help drive continuous improvement in EVRs geotechnical practices.

In this role you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Technical work on projects within EVRs central geotechnical team to continuously improve EVRs geotechnical practices.
  • Technical support for the geotechnical engineering teams at EVRs operating sites with respect to slope monitoring systems (radar, prisms, GPS, InSAR), data interpretation, stability analyses, and geohazard assessment and management
  • Participate in site reclamation and closure work, including post-mining geotechnical monitoring, stability and risk assessments for open pits and waste rock dumps.
  • Other duties as assigned or required

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Geological, Geotechnical or Mining Engineering
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) as a P. Eng. or Engineer in Training
  • Minimum three years of relevant geotechnical experience, including experience with geotechnical investigations, analyses, design and monitoring work for open pit mining operations (coal, base or precious metals, or industrial minerals).
  • Working knowledge of software packages for open pit and waste dump geotechnical work (e.g., Rocscience suite, GeoExplorer, radar monitoring, MinePlan)
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent
For applicants registered as an EIT or GIT, annual base salary will be determined by EVR's formal progression matrix based on verified relevant years of experience.
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidates relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
