CreditSights is offering a new role as APAC Special Situations Legal Analyst position, based in Singapore. As part of our rapidly growing team in Asia, the lawyer will work as an embedded legal specialist within the CreditSights team.

 

Strengthening our best-in-class credit research by providing a legal overlay to our fundamentals and strategy content, the right candidate will primarily be working on event-driven downside and recovery analysis and specialist overlay for distressed and stressed names. Over the longer term, this role will lay the foundation for more covenant-focused coverage and help establish us as a trusted authority on APAC special situations legal analysis through thought leadershipincluding deep dives, case studies, and primers on jurisdiction-specific processes. A key component of the role will be commercial interface: engaging directly with clients through calls, teach-ins, and webinars. The candidate will also work closely with the Covenant Review and LevFin Insights teams.

 

Scope of the Role:

  • Provide distressed debt and special situations analysis for APAC issuers with debt documents governed by English law, New York law, and relevant local laws.
  • Offer practical insight into potential defaults, enforcements, restructurings, and recoveries in APAC capital structures, including those involving multiple governing laws, offshore issuers, and complex creditor dynamics.
  • Analyze and explain defaults/cross-defaults, creditor rights, voting thresholds, and enforcement options.
  • Evaluate potential LMEs and restructuring pathways.
  • Assess collateral and credit support, equity treatment across different scenarios, contractual/structural/effective subordination, guarantees, keepwells, and intercreditor arrangements or claim priority.
  • Evaluate potential recoveries (restructuring vs liquidation, court-led vs consensual), considering ownership structure and practical barriers.
  • Cover primary market deals working with Covenant Review.
  • Establish a covenant data set, consistent with the global data infrastructure of Covenant Review.

 

Required Skills:

  • Qualified lawyer (England & Wales or U.S. qualification preferred; offshore or local qualification advantageous but not mandatory) with at least 8 years PQE.
  • Significant experience with financial restructuring, distressed debt/special situations, and cross-border APAC deals.
  • Strong familiarity with debt governed by English law, New York law, and/or local APAC law.
  • Excellent commercial judgment with a focus on practical and achievable outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and engage with sophisticated credit investors.

 

Title, Location and Reporting Structure:

  • The title for the role is Senior Legal Analyst, CreditSights; the role is a Director-level one.
  • The location is Singapore, although there could potentially be flexibility as to location within the region if there is an exceptional candidate who prefers not to be based in Singapore.
  • The reporting line is to the Head of APAC Research, CreditSights, with a dotted line to the Head of European Research, Covenant Review.
