What role you will play in our team
 

Imperial is recruiting for Chemical Engineering students at Strathcona Refinery located in Edmonton. Working under the guidance of staff Chemical Engineers, you will gain an understanding of petrochemical refining processes, process safety, process controls, and unit optimization. The role will be to support safe, reliable, and profitable operation of process units. Imperial is recruiting for a variety of positions within the Strathcona Manufacturing Complex organization including within various manufacturing teams, environmental, supply & logistics, process control & application.

 

What you will do
 

  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders including operations, reliability, process technical and automation engineers to support safe and reliable unit operation
  • Work with cross functional teams to identify, develop and implement operational and facility improvements with focus on safety, reliability, economics and sustainability
  • Effectively communicate status of unit operation, improvement opportunities and operating costs to various stakeholders 
     


About you
 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Studying to achieve a Bachelors or Masters degree in Chemical Engineering (or related discipline)
  • University Engineering student available for a work term beginning in September 2026
  • Currently enrolled in a University Engineering program and returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • Your most recent unofficial transcript(s) must be submitted with your application
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong academic skills
     

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

 

  • Previous industry experience is considered beneficial, but not essential
  • Commitment to safety on and off the job
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required for all roles
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team-based environment
     

 

Location: Edmonton, AB

 

Start Date: September 1, 2026

 

Work Term: 8, 12, 16 months (Depending on Student's availability)
