ExxonMobil in Malaysia

 

In Malaysia, we host a global business and technology center in Kuala Lumpur that provides high-level information technology and engineering expertise to ExxonMobils Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses worldwide. In the upstream, we have interests in two Production Sharing Contracts with PETRONAS, while in the Product Solutions business, we supply a portfolio of specialty chemical products to the marketplace.

 

What role you will play in the team

 

As a Network Security Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, engineering, and managing the enterprise network security posture. You will ensure that the network infrastructure aligns with corporate security policies and standards, protecting against evolving cyber threats. This role involves operating and maintaining key security technologiessuch as firewalls, IDS/IPS, and other advanced controlswhile applying DevOps principles to drive automation, scalability, and resilience.

You will collaborate closely with network, infrastructure, application, and cybersecurity teams to support and enhance ExxonMobils global IT services.

 

What you will do

 

  • Design, implement, and manage network security technologies and services across regions and different infrastructure environments (data centers, offices, edge).
  • Research and recommend industry best practices and emerging technologies in network security.
  • Operate and maintain network security appliances (Fortinet, Cisco, Juniper), including upgrades and patching.
  • Build and manage network security infrastructure using DevOps practices and automation tools.
  • Contribute to the Zero-Ops infrastructure management vision by developing solutions that reduce manual intervention and improve operational efficiency.
  • Support security operations: monitoring, analysis, incident response, and vulnerability management.
  • Evaluate security advisories and vulnerabilities, providing timely recommendations and mitigations.
  • Participate in ad-hoc vulnerability assessments and incident response.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders across Cybersecurity, Projects, and internal customers.
  • Develop and maintain operational processes and documentation for ongoing support.

 

About you

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in network security.
  • Experience with network security platforms: Cisco ASA (CSM), FTD (FMC), FortiGate (FortiManager), Juniper SRX (Junos Space).
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, OSI model, routing/switching, ACLs.
  • Familiarity with security technologies: firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, encryption, authentication, vulnerability management, and incident response.
  • Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or IT-related fields

 

Technical Skills

  • Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, Internet technologies, IPS/IDS, firewall virtualization, VPNs, NAT, DNS, etc.
  • Relevant certifications (preferred but not required): Cisco (CCNA/CCNP Security), Fortinet (FCA/FCSS/NSE), CISSP, GIAC.

 

Automation & DevOps

  • Strong advantage: experience with GitHub, Terraform, Ansible, Python, REST API, Jenkins, Jinja2, YAML.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools is a plus.

 

Cloud

  • Experience with AWS and Azure network security services.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
  • Mindset to grow and learn.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently in a global virtual team.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization abilities.

What you will do

If successful, your key deliverables include:

 

  • Support end-to-end networking solutions to support global deployment of Network services including WAN, MAN, Edge, Site, and not limited to currently supported Upstream & Midstream sites industrial system networks
  • Work with (design, install and support) networking technologies within industrial control system environments
  • Works technical activities as an individual contributor designing networking systems / solutions
  • Works as a technical resource on project implementation and oversee delivery of network technologies
  • Leverages technical knowledge to develop designs and solutions that meet clients needs
  • Provides expertise across technical areas while maintaining proficiency in key technical skills
  • Interfaces with customers and other senior technical professionals in the organization
  • Participates in project design development, documentation, change planning and change execution
  • Provides expertise for critical production problem resolution and respond to client problems and networking alarms with monitoring systems
  • Assesses impact of significant changes to systems and supporting components
  • Site visit maybe required for new site rollout, while others are upon request; i.e. expansion/upgrade of existing infrastructure including end-of-life refresh, network hardening, support ICSR v4 implementation or troubleshoot issues with vendors and onsite engineers.

  • Demonstrated expertise in global network design and network technology
  • Willing to work on rotation off-hours due to project implementation schedules and support global on-call rotations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal with internal teams and business clients and shows customer-first attitude / ability to work in inter-departmental team environment
