The Data Engineer provides strategic, technical, and operational leadership in the design, delivery, and operation of enterprise-grade data platforms supporting EYs digital products, analytics, and data-driven transformation initiatives.

This role owns data engineering outcomes end-to-enddefining platform strategy, setting standards, and leading teams to deliver scalable, reliable, secure, and compliant data solutions in regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

Data Platform Strategy & Technical Leadership

  • Define and drive the data engineering strategy aligned with product, analytics, and enterprise architecture goals
  • Own the target architecture across lakehouse, warehouse, and streaming environments
  • Govern architecture decisions across scalability, cost, performance, security, and compliance
  • Act as design authority for complex data solutions and pipelines

Data Engineering & Platform Delivery

  • Lead design and implementation of enterprise-scale batch and streaming pipelines using Python and modern frameworks
  • Ensure robust ingestion, transformation, and serving layers across diverse data sources (APIs, databases, events, files)
  • Develop reusable frameworks, accelerators, and best practices
  • Establish standards for data contracts, schemas, versioning, and documentation

Security, Risk & Compliance

  • Embed secure-by-design principles (access control, encryption, secrets management)
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and enterprise policies (data classification, lineage, retention, auditability)
  • Support audits, risk assessments, and governance forums as a data engineering SME

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience in data engineering, including solution ownership or leadership responsibilities
  • Strong expertise in Python and SQL for large-scale, production environments
  • Solid experience designing and operating enterprise data platforms (data lakes, warehouses, analytical systems)
  • Strong understanding of data modeling (dimensional, normalized, lakehouse)
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and engineering governance
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
  • Proven experience in data security, access control, and platform reliability

Preferred

  • Experience with Spark, Databricks, Airflow, dbt, Azure Data Factory
  • Knowledge of streaming/event-driven architectures (Kafka, Event Hubs, Service Bus)
  • Experience with lakehouse or enterprise data warehouse strategies
  • Background in financial services or regulated environments
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Bicep)
