The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced Video Journalist to join our global news operation in Singapore. This role focuses on producing clear, compelling video journalism aligned with the WSJs core coverage areas.

The ideal candidate is a versatile visual storyteller with strong editorial judgment and excellent shooting and editing skills. They are a collaborative professional with a background in news production and outstanding writing and communication abilities, capable of delivering polished work under the demands of a 24/7 news cycle. The ability to react quickly to breaking news while managing multiple assignments across a wide range of subjects is essential.

Successful applicants will demonstrate a proven track record of producing standout projects that cut through a fast-moving and crowded information landscape. Based in Singapore, this role reports to the Senior Supervising Producer.

You will:

  • Pitch, write and produce original story ideas that complement the WSJs news coverage

  • Closely monitor news feeds and respond quickly to breaking news events

  • Aggregate agency footage and user-generated content to produce visual breaking news stories, including clipping newsworthy soundbites that add value to WSJ coverage

  • Collaborate with editorial colleagues across coverage areas to ensure the WSJs unbiased reporting and expert analysis are reflected in every video

  • Fact-check scripts and ensure all journalistic, editorial and legal standards are met

  • Work flexible hours, including evening and weekends, as news developments require and as part of a rotation schedule

  • Partner with colleagues across the newsroom to identify opportunities for visually distinctive videos across platforms

  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned

You have:

  • At least five years experience producing business, technology, politics or general-news videos in a fast-paced daily news environment at a reputable national or global media organization

  • A strong understanding of the political, economic and cultural forces shaping Asia, with particular insight into the regions largest and most influential market: China

  • Proven experience writing headlines, captions and scripts under tight deadlines

  • Clear, confident communication skills with strong writing and collaboration abilities

  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro

  • Demonstrated experience producing video shoots, both on location and remotely

  • Experience shooting and lighting interviews or scenes independently
