About the Role:

This role sits within the Identity & Entitlements Engineering team, responsible for delivering seamless and secure authentication experiences for premium Dow Jones brands and integration with third parties as service providers. As a Staff Enginee r , you will serve as a technical leader across multiple teams and product areas, setting strategic direction for Identity and Entitlements architecture and infrastructure. Your focus will be on solving the most complex, cross-cutting engineering challenges, guiding long-term platform decisions, and ensuring technical excellence at scale. You will shape the future of Identity and Entitlements development at Dow Jones by driving critical technical initiatives, mentoring engineering leaders, and championing practices that elevate velocity, quality, and innovation.

You Will:

• Set technical direction and architectural vision for large-scale Identity related initiatives across multiple product teams and brands.

• Drive alignment across engineering, product, and design by translating complex business goals into resilient, scalable technical solutions.

• Lead modernization efforts to reduce tech debt, improve performance, and streamline platform development for Identity and entitlements components.

• Act as a trusted advisor and mentor to lead engineers, promoting technical growth and engineering excellence.

• Partner closely with leadership to influence cross-functional roadmaps.

• Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to design and lead identity solutions . This includes ensuring security and compliance, providing frictionless experiences for Dow Jones (DJ) products, and facilitating seamless integration both within DJ products and with third-party systems.

You Have:

• 7-10 years of prior experience in software development, engineering, or a related industry.

• Experience with web based technologies with a combination of the following: Node, React, REST, JSON. Experience with HTML, CSS, HTML5, JavaScript, Git/Github

• Object oriented programming ability (such as C#, C++, or Java)

• Experience with Agile Development methodologies (SCRUM)

• Understanding of service oriented architecture

• Experience with unit test frameworks, dependency injection and application profiling.

• Strong communication skills to be able to work across tech teams and with business stakeholders

• Demonstrated experience setting identity architectural direction at scale and guiding teams through large system redesigns or platform transitions.

• Strong technical depth in system design, infrastructure, and performance optimization.

• A collaborative mindset, with excellent communication skills and a track record of influencing across engineering, product, and executive leadership.

• Demonstrated expertise in platform engineering, encompassing the development of shared tools, reusable components, cloud-native architectures, and robust CI/CD pipelines to enhance the velocity of feature development teams.

• A passion for news and mission-driven products; experience in media or journalism is a plus.
