About the Role

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Dow Jones Web Platform Team , you will report into the Sr Engineering Director and partner with senior leadership and cross-functional peers to architect and deliver next-gen web and AI platforms. You are responsible for driving product innovation, ensuring system scalability and performance, and optimizing development processes to deliver high-quality, reliable solutions across the B2B and B2C portfolio.

You Will

  • Lead Technical Strategy: Balance hands-on development with high-level architectural oversight, designing scalable systems and roadmaps that align with Dow Jones' business goals.

  • Bridge Business & Tech: Act as a key liaison between Engineering, Product, Editorial, and Marketing to influence decision-making and ensure technical execution meets organizational needs.

  • Drive Operational Excellence: Proactively identify systemic issues, manage technical debt, and establish quality standards to ensure "drama-free," high-performance software delivery.

  • Amplify Team Impact: Serve as an org-level mentor and "go-to" expert, scaling technical capabilities through code reviews, guidance, and high-quality documentation.

  • Navigate Complexity: Solve ambiguous, large-scale problems by evaluating trade-offs and delivering accurate estimates in a fast-paced, shifting environment.

You Have

  • 7+ years in software engineering, with 35 years in a lead engineering role

  • Substantial experience in building digital subscription products, advertising and privacy technologies, and high-traffic websites

  • Strong understanding of Javascript and the best practices around the web stack (ExpressJs, React, Redis, NextJs, Node.Js)

  • Advanced CSS Knowledge: Grid, Flexbox, Media Queries, Container Queries, Transitions, etc.

  • Experience with AI tools (Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI, etc.) for the purpose of improving productivity and building consumer facing products.

  • Knowledge of Software Engineering fundamentals including web development, service-oriented architecture, cloud computing, test driven development and domain driven design

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent or equivalent work experience.

Base Pay Range: 70,000 - 90,000
