About the Role

We're on a mission at Dow Jones to provide the world's most trusted journalism, data and analysis to help people make decisions. As part of the company's global communications team, you'll play a key role in leading and supporting our newsrooms, working collaboratively across both our team and executive leadership to support our journalism and tell our company story. You will help to lead and contribute to a team of talented communications professionals with a focus on strategy development, execution, media relations, crisis communications, reputation management and executive profile building. This is a multi-faceted role and one designed to bring critical skills, leadership abilities and a bias toward action to our team as we work to tell great stories about the company and its businesses. A key component to this role is supporting our consumer publicationsThe Wall Street Journal, Barron's, MarketWatch, Investor's Business Dailydeveloping communications strategies that support newsroom leaderships' vision, securing high-impact media coverage around key moments and initiatives, protecting our reputation, promoting our journalism and aligning the newsroom efforts to the broader mission of Dow Jones. You will partner with our editors in chief, managing editors, heads of strategy, digital, social and audio/video, among others, to tell compelling multimedia stories, both externally and internally among our newsrooms and across Dow Jones.

You Will:

  • Report to the SVP, Deputy Chief Communications Officer and be based in our New York City office.

  • Support and protect our news brands, driving proactive storytelling around some of the world's leading business publications and effectively positioning our journalists, editors and leaders as experts across the broader media landscape.

  • Drive external and internal communications for newsroom leaders, including getting stories placed, promoting our journalism, managing and building executive profiles, guiding change and protecting our brand reputation.

  • Lead and execute the global communications plan for our newsrooms, directly managing a NY-based team and working closely with communications peers in Asia and Europe to promote our journalism and protect our brand around the world.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key journalists, producers, event organizers and industry peers to create new opportunities to promote Dow Jones and our brands.

  • Provide effective media training for journalists to ensure effective and consistent messaging in external appearances.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive executive speaking strategy, including identifying high-value external forums and events, and providing on-site communications support and briefing materials for executive participation.

  • Protect our company and brands' reputation by identifying risks and quickly preparing and issuing company responses.

  • Manage internal communications for our newsrooms, ensuring teams get important updates, and working closely with our corporate internal communications team on storytelling across our company-wide channels and platforms.

  • Play a key role in contributing to a strong team and company culture, taking to heart our values of collaboration, impact, trust and excellence.

You Have:

  • 12+ years of communications experience in the news/media industry

  • Experience working with executive leaders on internal, external and crisis communications, preferably in a matrixed organization

  • A strategic, proactive mindset and a strong news judgment

  • Deep industry relationships and proven experience working with reporters, editors, producers and influencers

  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to craft compelling messages that cut through

  • Experience developing and executing impactful communications campaigns aligned with strategic priorities

  • A professional, collaborative and team-oriented approach to your work

  • Excellent project management skills and a solution-oriented mindset

  • Strong people management skills and an appetite to mentor and grow talent

Base Pay Range: $170,000.00 - $210,000.00

Were committed to offering competitive and flexible compensation to attract top talent. This pay range reflects our good faith estimate for the role and may vary based on a candidates experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors.

For bonus-eligible roles, targets are determined based on multiple considerations, including market benchmarks and individual contributions.
